Hours: 4 days per week – 3 days care-home based + 1 day working from home

We are looking for a reliable, organised and friendly Optical Assistant/Admin Assistant to join our growing domiciliary eye-care service.
This is a varied role involving 3 days working directly in care homes supporting our optician during clinics, with 1 day working from home to complete administrative and business development tasks.
Key Responsibilities
Care Home / Clinic Work – 3 Days Per Week
- Assist the optician during domiciliary eye-care clinics.
- Help organise patients and ensure clinics run smoothly.
- Dispense and fit spectacles to patients.
- Help patients choose suitable frames.
- Contact next of kin/family members to discuss spectacle options and orders.
- Assist with spectacle measurements, collections and deliveries.
- Provide friendly and professional aftercare to patients.
- Complete relevant NHS paperwork and documentation.
- Maintain accurate patient and care-home records.
- Communicate professionally with care-home staff and family members.
Home-Based Administration & Business Development – 1 Day Per Week
- Finalise any outstanding paperwork and administration from clinics.
- Process and follow up spectacle orders.
- Make calls to patients and next of kin where required.
- Maintain patient and care-home records.
- Contact existing and potential care homes to develop new relationships.
- Identify and approach new care homes that may benefit from our service.
- Liaise with GP practices, local opticians and other healthcare professionals to introduce and promote our service.
- Follow up potential opportunities.
- Assist with general administrative tasks to support the running and growth of the business.
About You
We are looking for someone who is:
- Friendly, approachable and confident speaking to patients, families and healthcare professionals.
- Highly organised with good attention to detail.
- Comfortable making telephone calls and communicating with new organisations.
- Professional and confident when representing the company.
- Able to work independently and manage their own workload.
- Comfortable using computers and completing administrative work.
- Ideally experienced in optics, healthcare, care homes or a similar environment.
A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle is essential, as the role involves travelling to care homes across Cardiff and surrounding areas. Fuel/business mileage will be covered.
