Learning Support Assistant (Health & Social Care)
Contract: Term Time
5 Days per Week Monday – Friday
Hours: 9am – 4pm
Salary: £13 - £15 per hour

Job Purpose
To provide high-quality learning support to students within the Health & Social Care course, enabling them to achieve their full academic and personal potential. The Learning Support Assistant will work closely with the lead tutor to provide in-class and, where appropriate, individual or small-group support for students with additional learning needs, ensuring an inclusive and positive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Support students with identified learning difficulties, disabilities, or additional needs during Health & Social Care lessons
- Work alongside lead tutor to adapt learning activities and resources to meet individual student needs
- Provide one-to-one and small-group support to reinforce learning and develop confidence and independence
- Assist students in developing effective study skills, organisation, communication, and independent learning strategies
- Encourage student participation, motivation, and engagement in classroom activities
- Support practical learning sessions while promoting safe working practices
- Help students understand assessment requirements and complete coursework within agreed support boundaries
- Record student progress and provide feedback to teaching staff on engagement and achievement
- Assist in implementing Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), learning support plans, and reasonable adjustment
- Promote equality, diversity, safeguarding, and inclusion in all aspects of the role
- Liaise with tutors, parents/carers (where appropriate), and external agencies as directed
- Attend relevant meetings, training sessions, and professional development activities
- Maintain confidentiality in accordance with GDPR and organisational policies
Person Specification
Desirable Experience
- Experience supporting students aged 16–19 or adult learners
- Experience supporting learners with EHCPs, autism, ADHD, dyslexia, or social, emotional, and mental health needs
- Knowledge of Health & Social Care education or the care sector
Knowledge and Skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to build positive and supportive relationships with students
- Good organisational and time-management skills
- Ability to adapt learning approaches to meet individual needs
- Understanding of safeguarding, equality, diversity, and inclusion
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries
