Job Overview
Our estate is seeking an experienced Irrigation Technician to join our gardening team under the instruction of our head gardener, taking responsibility for the maintenance, operation and performance of the estate’s irrigation system.
You will be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance and operation of the irrigation system, identifying and resolving faults and adjusting and ensure efficient water usage across the gardens.
You will work independently as required while also liaising closely with our Head Gardener, and the rest of the team as well as external contractors.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and manage the estate’s Rain Bird irrigation system.
- Maintain sprinklers, drip lines, valves and associated irrigation equipment.
- Programme and adjust irrigation controllers to optimise water usage.
- Troubleshoot and resolve irrigation system faults and inefficiencies.
- Monitor the performance of the irrigation system and identify potential issues.
- Utilise smart controllers, sensors and other modern irrigation technologies.
- Maintain accurate records of irrigation maintenance, repairs and adjustments.
- Liaise with external irrigation contractors when required.
- Report directly to the Head Gardener regarding irrigation requirements and ongoing works.
- Work closely with the gardening team to ensure the gardens receive appropriate irrigation throughout the year.
- Maintain a high standard of organisation, safety and presentation across all irrigation-related work.
Skills & Experience
- Previous professional experience as an Irrigation Engineer or Technician is essential.
- Broad and practical knowledge of Rain Bird irrigation systems.
- Experience maintaining, programming and troubleshooting irrigation systems.
- Good understanding of sprinklers, drip irrigation, valves and irrigation controllers.
- A practical and methodical approach to fault finding and problem solving.
- Ability to work independently and manage workloads effectively.
- Good communication skills and a positive, professional attitude.
- Experience working within a horticultural or gardening environment would be advantageous.
- Full, clean UK driving licence is essential.
