About the team:
You will join a supportive and collaborative Children’s Commissioning Team within Southampton’s Community Wellbeing Directorate. The team commissions a broad range of children’s services, including support for children with special educational needs and disabilities, children in care, care leavers, youth provision, prevention and early intervention. We work with partners, providers, children, young people and families to understand need, shape services and improve outcomes. Following Children’s Services’ Ofsted rating of Good, with Outstanding Leadership, this is a great time to contribute to continued improvement.
About the role:
As Commissioning Support Officer, you will help redesign, commission and improve children’s services so they are high quality, inclusive, financially sustainable and shaped by evidence, partnership working and the voices of children, young people and families.
The role will include:
- Undertake needs assessments and data analysis to inform planning and commissioning options.
- Undertake service reviews and develop option appraisals to support commissioning decisions.
- Work with all stakeholders to ensure active participation in the development and design of services.
- Lead on areas of system redesign to achieve agreed outcomes and improvements, adopting a project management approach.

About you:
We are looking for someone with experience of service redesign or commissioning who can organise a varied workload, work flexibly and respond positively to competing demands. Key skills will include:
- Experience of managing projects and contributing to strategies, policies, reports or business cases.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret and present information from a range of quantitative and qualitative sources.
- Good communication and presentation skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with colleagues, partners, providers and stakeholders.
- A commitment to improving outcomes for children, young people and families through inclusive, evidence-informed services.

Salary: The salary band for this role is £47,181 - £51,357 per annum. The starting salary is £47,181 with annual progression through the salary bands.
