Maintenance & Facilities Manager
Location: High House Weddings, Althorne, Essex
Job Type: Full-time
Hours: 40 hours per week, with flexibility required around weddings and events. 40 hours per week, shift start times between 7am and 9am, finish between 3pm and 5pm. 5 days out 7, to include weekends.
High House Weddings is an award-winning, exclusive-use wedding venue set within beautiful countryside in Essex. We pride ourselves on delivering exceptional weddings and events, with outstanding attention to detail both for our couples and their guests.
Behind every successful wedding is a huge amount of work to ensure the venue, gardens, buildings and facilities are looking their absolute best and functioning perfectly. We are looking for an experienced, practical and proactive Maintenance & Facilities Manager to take ownership of this important area of the business.
The Role
As Maintenance & Facilities Manager, you will be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance, presentation, safety and overall condition of the venue and its facilities.
This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys being practical and taking pride in their work, while also being organised enough to plan preventative maintenance, manage contractors and ensure issues are dealt with quickly and efficiently.
You will play a key role in ensuring High House Weddings is always wedding-ready – from the gardens and grounds to the buildings, facilities, equipment and guest accommodation.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance & Repairs
- Carry out routine maintenance, repairs and general handyman duties across the venue.
- Identify and resolve maintenance issues before they become problems for weddings or guests.
- Undertake regular checks of buildings, fixtures, fittings, furniture and equipment.
- Maintain doors, locks, plumbing, basic electrical systems, lighting and general building fabric.
- Respond quickly to urgent maintenance issues, particularly on wedding days.
- Maintain tools, equipment and maintenance supplies.
Grounds & External Areas
- Oversee the general upkeep and presentation of the gardens, lawns, pathways, courtyards and outdoor areas.
- Work alongside external gardening and landscaping contractors where required.
- Ensure outdoor areas are maintained to an exceptional standard throughout the wedding season.
- Monitor irrigation and watering requirements, particularly during periods of hot or dry weather.
- Assist with seasonal preparation of the grounds and venue.
Facilities Management
- Ensure all venue facilities are clean, safe, functional and presented to a high standard.
- Manage planned preventative maintenance schedules.
- Coordinate external contractors and specialist trades where required.
- Obtain quotes and assist with managing maintenance-related expenditure.
- Maintain accurate records of servicing, inspections and repairs.
- Monitor stock levels of maintenance materials and arrange replenishment.
- Support venue improvement, refurbishment and development projects.
Health & Safety
- Carry out regular health and safety checks across the venue.
- Identify hazards and ensure appropriate action is taken.
- Manage compliance with fire safety, emergency lighting, water systems and other statutory requirements.
- Ensure contractors work safely and in accordance with venue procedures.
- Maintain appropriate records and documentation.
Wedding & Event Support
- Ensure the venue is fully prepared and operational ahead of each wedding.
- Carry out pre-event checks of key facilities and equipment.
- Be available to respond to unexpected maintenance issues during events when required.
- Work closely with the Events and Operations teams to ensure the smooth running of weddings.
- Assist with room and venue set-up where required.

- Flexible around working hours, including occasional evenings and weekends when required.
Experience & Qualifications
Essential:
- Previous experience in a maintenance, facilities, property, estates or similar practical role.
- Strong general maintenance and DIY skills.
- Good understanding of health and safety requirements.
- Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Ability to work independently and use initiative.
Desirable:
- Experience within hospitality, weddings, events, hotels or a similar customer-facing environment.
- Experience managing contractors and external suppliers.
- Basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry or decorating skills.
- Relevant maintenance or facilities qualifications.
- Experience maintaining gardens, grounds or outdoor spaces.
