Background
To create and contribute to the creation of knowledge by undertaking a specified range of activities within an established research programme.
The TRACE project is a Horizon Europe–funded research programme examining technology-facilitated gender-based violence (TFGBV) across the conflict–transit–refuge continuum. The project brings together an international consortium of researchers and stakeholders to generate robust, comparative evidence and inform policy and practice.
TRACE aims to build the first cross-context evidence base on TFGBV across diverse geographical and socio-political settings, develop a shared typology and methodological framework to support consistent analysis and comparison, produce evidence-based guidance to strengthen policy, prevention strategies, and accountability mechanisms.
Role Summary
- Work within specified research grants and projects and contribute to writing bids
- Operate within area of specialism of Gender-Based Violence
- Analyse and interpret research findings and results
- Publish scholarly outputs in conjunction with team members
- Contribute to generating funding
Main Duties
The responsibilities may include some but not all of the responsibilities outlined below.
- Deliver assigned tasks, milestones, and outputs in line with the TRACE Grant Agreement, ensuring timely and high-quality contribution to project deliverables
- Actively collaborate with researchers across other work packages to support shared methods, synthesis, and comparative analysis
- Participate in TRACE governance and coordination structures, including consortium meetings, work package meetings, and relevant thematic groups
- Contribute to the Research Fellow Coordination Network and other cross-consortium forums as appropriate
- Provide timely updates on progress, risks, and dependencies to the Work Package Lead and project management team
- Support stakeholder engagement activities
- Assist work package leads with ensuring full compliance with TRACE requirements on ethics, safeguarding, and data protection, embedding these as core elements of research delivery
- Analyse and interpret data
- Apply knowledge in a way which develops new intellectual understanding
- Disseminate research findings for publication, research seminars etc
- Supervise students on research related work and provide guidance to PhD students where appropriate to the discipline
- Contribute to developing new models, techniques and methods
- Undertake management/administration arising from research
- Manage the Survivor Advisory Boards
- Contribute to Departmental/School research-related activities and research-related administration
- Contribute to public and policy engagement activities of manifest benefit to the College and the University, often under supervision of a project leader
- Collect research data; this may be through a variety of research methods, such as literature reviews, and gender and trauma-sensitive research interviews
- Present research outputs, including drafting academic publications or parts thereof, for example at seminars and as posters
- Provide guidance, as required, to support staff and any students who may be assisting with the research
- Deal with problems that may affect the achievement of research objectives and deadlines
- Fosters a fair and equitable workplace for all staff
- Identify and respond to equality and diversity issues in line with relevant university policies and procedures

Person Specification
- A PhD relevant to the research area (or near completion), or equivalent PhD level qualifications.
- High level analytical capability
- Ability to communicate complex information clearly
- Fluency in relevant models, techniques or methods and ability to contribute to developing new ones
- Ability to assess resource requirements and use resources effectively
- Understanding of and ability to contribute to broader management/administration processes
- Contribute to the planning and organising of the research programme and/or specific research project
- Co-ordinate own work with others to avoid conflict or duplication of effort
- Experience of gender and trauma sensitive interviewing
- Proficiency in Arabic or another relevant language spoken by forced migrant communities, sufficient to conduct research interviews without an interpreter.
- Knowledge of the protected characteristics and duties under the Equality Act 2010. Including fostering good relations and advancing the universities Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED).
