Job title: Family Support worker
Job Purpose: To provide one-to-one practical and emotional support to children, young people and families across Bath and North East Somerset, using a relational, strengths-based and trauma-informed approach. Support is delivered in family homes, community settings, schools and group environments, helping families build confidence, resilience, positive relationships and access appropriate services and support networks.
Location: Meade House, Wedgwood Road, Bath, BA2 1QN. Clients or groups will be located anywhere in Bath and North East Somerset.
Salary: £26,000 pro-rata per annum
Hours: 22.5 hours per week, over 3 days
30 hours per week, over 4 days
Opportunity for extended leave allowance for applicants with caring responsibilities, subject to prior discussion and agreement.
Term: Permanent contract

A bit about the role:
We are looking to recruit a Family Support Worker to support children and families; to offer practical help, advice, and emotional support to families in their homes or groups. The role will include providing step-down support to families affected by domestic abuse, helping them to maintain their safety, independence, and wellbeing as they move out of crisis support within Southside’s Domestic Abuse service.
At Southside, building a professional and trusting relationship is the basis of our work. From this position we can encourage, support and challenge parents to build appropriate nurturing relationships with their children where they can be emotionally available to the child and still retain a boundaried approach allowing the child to feel secure and understood.
We are aware that parents bring a wealth of their own childhood experiences some of which can be adverse and may impact on the way that they relate to their own children. Before an individual can parent in a positive way, they usually need an experience of being supported, respected, encouraged and challenged themselves.
