CNC Composite Machinist
About the Role
Smart Solutions are currently recruiting for CNC Composite Machinists to join a leading aerospace manufacturing facility based at Western Approach. This site specialises in the manufacture, machining and assembly of large carbon fibre aircraft components used in commercial aircraft production.
This role is ideal for candidates with CNC machining experience on composite or metallic materials, who are looking to work with advanced aerospace manufacturing technology in a highly regulated environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Manufacture, machine, measure, test and assemble aerospace components using composite and metallic materials.
- Operate CNC router machines and 5-axis drilling and machining equipment.
- Work with large aircraft components up to 15 metres in length within a fully traceable manufacturing environment.
- Load and set fixtures and tooling on CNC machinery.
- Use Renishaw probing equipment and cutter tool setting systems.
- Interpret engineering drawings and quality standards to ensure components meet strict aerospace requirements.
- Support lean manufacturing initiatives, waste reduction and continuous improvement activities.
- Work safely in line with Health & Safety procedures, risk assessments and COSHH regulations.
Skills & Experience Required
- Previous experience operating CNC machinery (composite or metallic machining).
- Experience with fixture and tooling setup.
- Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and tolerances.
- Ideally experience with Siemens 840D control systems.
- Previous experience within aerospace, composite or advanced manufacturing environments would be beneficial.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work within small team environments.
- A recognised apprenticeship or relevant machining experience is preferred.
- Willingness to undertake additional training in advanced composite manufacturing techniques.
Working Hours
This role requires flexibility to work night shift patterns in line with operational requirements.
