We’re looking for a skilled, motivated planning policy manager to lead our talented team at a pivotal moment.
Progressing the preparation of our new Local Plan, associated local planning policy and assisting communities with neighbourhood planning, you’ll play a central role in shaping how our communities evolve, balancing growth, sustainability, and great place-making.
We are looking for an experienced and forward-thinking individual to lead our planning policy team and help shape the future of our area.
This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified, experienced planning professional to play a leading role in reviewing and developing planning policy, working closely with Members, colleagues, communities and external partners.
As planning policy manager, you will provide leadership to the Place Planning team, ensuring the service remains ambitious, customer focused and high performing.
You will lead the Local Plan process from evidence gathering and policy development through to consultation and examination, helping to guide sustainable growth, infrastructure delivery and investment across the area.
What you’ll be doing:

Lead and inspire the Place Planning team.

Drive the Local Plan through the plan-making system.

Collaborate with Members, senior officers, and regional partners.

Represent the council at committees, hearings, and examinations.
What we’re looking for:

Experience preparing and delivering Local Plans
-
RTPI membership (or eligibility).

Comfortable leading complex and high-profile projects
-
Strong communication, leadership, and project management skills.

A calm, pragmatic approach and the ability to motivate others.

You will be a confident and professional communicator, able to build positive working relationships and present complex information clearly to a wide range of audiences.

You will be comfortable making decisions, managing competing priorities and motivating others to deliver excellent results.
