About Us:
Birchanger Sports & Social Club (BSSC) is a vibrant, family-friendly community hub in the heart of the village. Known for our welcoming atmosphere, we host thriving local sports teams (cricket, football, snooker, darts), live TV sports, weekly quiz and bingo nights, and an active kitchen serving classic pub food, lunches, and traditional Sunday roasts. We are looking for an energetic, community-minded Assistant Bar & Kitchen Supervisor to join our tight-knit team and help us keep things running smoothly!
The Role:
This is a dynamic, hands-on dual role perfect for someone who loves variety. You will split your time between leading the team on the bar floor during busy match days and events, and stepping into the kitchen to help prep and cook our popular pub menu. You will work closely with the Club Steward and Kitchen Manager, stepping up to manage shifts independently when needed.
Key Duties:
- Lead the Floor: Run shifts smoothly, support bar staff, handle cash registers, and ensure our members receive exceptional service.
- Get Cooking: Assist with food preparation and cook classic pub dishes and Sunday roasts during our core kitchen hours (lunchtimes, select evenings, and Sundays).
- Event Energy: Help manage fast-paced service during live sports, Monday quizzes, and Thursday bingo nights.
- Safety & Standards: Maintain high levels of cleanliness, log kitchen temperatures, manage food safety compliance (HACCP), and enforce Challenge 25.
What We’re Looking For:
- Proven experience in a pub, social club, or hospitality environment spanning both bar service and basic line cooking/food prep.
- A valid Food Hygiene Level 2 Certificate (or willingness to complete it).
- A friendly, confident, and reliable team player who thrives in a local community setting.
- Excellent communication skills and a level head under pressure during peak times.
- Flexibility: You must be available to work a varied rota that heavily involves evenings, weekends, and bank holidays.
