KNX Onsite Commissioning Engineer
Job Description:
Project: Large-scale Schneider Electric KNX lighting control system — Central London hospitality landmark
Location: Central London (site-based)
Contract: 6 weeks, 5 days per week
Rate: £500 per day (IR35 status confirmed per engagement)
Start date: 1 August 2026
Eligibility: UK-based candidates with the right to work in the UK. This is a hands-on, fully site-based commissioning and handover role.
OKTO is recruiting an experienced KNX commissioning engineer to take a large-scale Schneider Electric KNX lighting control system through onsite commissioning to handover, on a high-visibility Central London hospitality landmark project.
The system has already been fully programmed by our in-house team. ETS6 programming of the KNX estate, SpaceLogic hardware configuration, and SpaceLYnk Lua logic are complete. What remains is the critical onsite phase: energising, addressing, commissioning, fine-tuning, and proving the installation on site, then delivering a clean handover to the client.
The installation runs to over 2,000 DALI groups across multiple distributed control panels, with phase-cut dimming for decorative loads, DMX integration for feature areas, and SpaceLYnk scene and partition logic. You will be the person who makes it all come to life on site.
The role:
Working from the completed ETS6 project and commissioning documentation, you will download to the installed hardware, commission the DALI and dimming circuits, prove third-party integrations, and run scene-setting sessions with the lighting designer through to a snagged, signed-off handover. You will be the on-site technical lead for the commissioning phase, coordinating with the site electrical contractor, project manager, and our in-house programming team.
Key responsibilities:
- Download the completed ETS6 project to the installed Schneider SpaceLogic hardware and verify the bus topology, line couplers, and KNX/IP backbone on site
- Commission DALI-2 broadcast and addressable circuits — addressing, group verification, emergency luminaire monitoring, and tuneable white / circadian scheduling checks
- Commission and fine-tune 230V phase-cut dimming (leading and trailing edge) for FF&E decorative loads, resolving flicker, minimum-level, and curve issues on the actual luminaires
- Prove DMX-512 feature areas — e.g. ballroom RGBW/RGBA cove and chandelier control — against the design intent
- Verify and tune astronomical timeclock and circadian scene logic, including smooth fade transitions across all areas
- Prove third-party integrations on site via KNX/IP: GRMS (lock-off corridor logic, DND/MUR), AV (Crestron touch panel scene recall), PMS, and fire-alarm dry-contact interfaces
- Run lighting designer scene-setting sessions and dial in levels, scenes, and transitions to the designer's approval
- Diagnose and resolve faults, carry out snagging, and drive the system to a clean, signed-off handover
- Update and maintain as-built ETS projects, group address schedules, and handover documentation to reflect all onsite changes
- Liaise daily with the site electrical contractor, project manager, and OKTO's in-house programming team, escalating programming changes as needed
Essential requirements:
- Certified KNX Partner (basic course passed, ETS Professional licensed)
- Minimum 3 years' hands-on KNX commissioning experience on commercial-scale projects
- Demonstrable onsite commissioning experience with the Schneider Electric SpaceLogic / SpaceLYnk product family (LSS100200 SpaceLYnk, MTN6710/6810 dimming masters, MTN6725 DALI Gateway Pro)
- DALI-2 commissioning experience, including emergency lighting test regimes
- Confident fault-finding on live systems — bus diagnostics, dimming curves, DALI addressing, integration troubleshooting
- Comfortable working from electrical schematics, panel schedules, and lighting designer scene sheets
- Right to work in the UK
- Willingness to undergo background check
- Able to work full-time on site in Central London for the full 6-week duration
Desirable:
- KNX Advanced certification
- SpaceLYnk Lua scripting familiarity (for onsite tweaks and diagnostics)
- Hospitality sector commissioning experience (hotels, F&B, spa)
- Experience commissioning KNX alongside Crestron AV, GRMS platforms, and BMS (Schneider EcoStruxure)
- DMX-512 / theatrical lighting console familiarity (grandMA, ETC, Pharos)
- KNX Secure experience
- IP networking fundamentals: VLANs, switching, KNXnet/IP routing
What we offer:
- £500 per day, paid weekly
- A defined 6-week engagement with a clear scope: commission and hand over a marquee installation
- A fully programmed, well-documented system to commission — no programming backlog to clear
- Pipeline of marquee projects across hospitality and commercial sectors beyond this engagement
- Supportive in-house team of programmers, panel builders, and commissioning engineers on hand throughout
- Manufacturer training where useful
This role is offered on a B2B / contractor basis, IR35 status confirmed per engagement. To apply, send your CV and a short summary of your KNX commissioning experience, including relevant Schneider SpaceLogic projects, to OKTO.
Pay: £500.00 per day
Work authorisation:
- United Kingdom (required)
Work Location: On the road
