Intro
Join a long-established Surrey retailer as our IT Systems Administrator — a hands-on role covering support, infrastructure and systems development across our showroom, warehouse and offices.
About
RDO Kitchens & Appliances has been trading from Reigate since 1952. We're an independent family business of around 50 people, running a busy showroom, kitchen design studio, warehouse, delivery fleet and a growing online business. All of it runs on systems, and this role keeps them running.
You'll work alongside our IT Manager, taking ownership of day-to-day support and infrastructure and building the depth to cover confidently during absence. The variety is real: a scanner fault in the warehouse in the morning, a backup restore test in the afternoon, an automation that saves the sales team an hour a day by the end of the week.
Responsibilities
Support:
- First- and second-line support for hardware, software and network issues across office, showroom and warehouse
- Configuring and maintaining laptops, desktops, mobile devices, printers and warehouse scanning equipment
- Supporting users with Microsoft 365 and our core business applications
- Account creation, permissions and password resets in Active Directory / Entra ID
Infrastructure:
- Routine system checks, patching and preventative maintenance across servers and endpoints
- Monitoring backups and taking part in restore testing
- Troubleshooting wired and wireless connectivity; liaising with our ISP and suppliers
- Maintaining the IT asset, licence and supplier register
- Documenting systems and recovery procedures so critical knowledge sits with the business
- Covering for the IT Manager during periods of absence
Systems & Improvement:
- Learning and supporting our core FileMaker database, which underpins sales, purchasing and logistics
- Contributing to automation and process improvement work across departments
- Assisting with system upgrades and integrations across FileMaker, e-commerce and supplier data feeds
Essential
- 2–4 years in an IT support or systems role, or a strong equivalent mix of study and hands-on experience
- Working knowledge of Windows Server and Windows desktop environments
- Active Directory / Entra ID administration — accounts, permissions, group policy basics
- Networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, wireless, switching
- Confident PC and peripheral hardware troubleshooting
- Microsoft 365 support and administration
- The ability to explain technical things clearly to non-technical colleagues
- Self-motivation and good judgement about what to fix now, what to schedule, and when to escalate
Desirable
- Scripting experience (PowerShell, Python or similar)
- Understanding of relational databases and business workflows
- Any exposure to FileMaker, or a genuine appetite to learn it
- Backup and disaster recovery experience
- Experience supporting retail, warehouse or multi-site environments
- Full UK driving licence
Progression
This job is built to grow. You'll take on more ownership as your confidence builds, and you'll be trained in FileMaker development — an incredibly versatile tool. You'll also get involved in automation and digital transformation work across the business, and build real depth in infrastructure and systems administration while seeing the whole picture rather than one narrow slice of it.
