Bench Jeweller / Workshop Assistant
About the Role
We are looking for a friendly, organised and customer-focused Bench Jeweller / Workshop Assistant to join our independent jewellery business. This is a varied role combining front-of-house customer service with light bench work and workshop administration.
You will be the first point of contact for customers requiring jewellery repairs, bespoke commissions and remodelling projects, helping to guide them through the process while ensuring an exceptional customer experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Welcome customers into the showroom and discuss jewellery repairs, bespoke commissions and remodelling enquiries.
- Book in jewellery repairs accurately and provide quotations where appropriate.
- Price repair work and bespoke commissions.
- Assist customers wishing to sell unwanted gold and precious metals (cash for gold).
- Carry out insurance and jewellery valuations (training can be provided where required).
- Prepare detailed job sheets for the workshop.
- Liaise with customers regarding repair progress and collection.
- Order workshop findings and materials as required.
- Support workshop administration and maintain accurate records.
Bench Work
Where time permits, undertake junior bench jewellery work, including:
- Ring resizing.
- Polishing and refinishing.
- Chain and clasp repairs.
- Basic soldering and workshop repairs.
- General workshop assistance.
Bench work is secondary to the customer-facing responsibilities of the role.
About You
The ideal candidate will:
- Have previous experience within the jewellery industry.
- Be confident dealing with customers in a professional and friendly manner.
- Have knowledge of jewellery repairs and manufacturing techniques.
- Be able to accurately assess and price repair work.
- Have excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Be comfortable handling high-value jewellery.
- Possess basic bench jewellery skills, including polishing, resizing and simple repairs.
- Experience with CAD design or bespoke jewellery consultations would be advantageous but is not essential.
Working Pattern
- Three days per week.
- Saturdays are essential, as this is our busiest trading day.
