Alloy Wheel and Vehicle Finishing Technician
Location: Carr Body Repair Ltd, Buxton, Derbyshire
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 5.30pm
Salary: Starting from £30K + Overtime, performance bonus and structured training.
Salary will increase as skills, responsibility and competency develop.

About the role
Carr Body Repair is expanding its services with a significant investment in a dedicated alloy wheel repair facility. We are looking for a practical, dependable person to take ownership of this new operation.
The role will primarily involve diamond-cut and painted alloy wheel repairs, using professional Wheel Restore equipment. It will also include vehicle polishing, final presentation, valeting and supporting high standards of workshop housekeeping.
This is not simply a valeting position. The successful person will be responsible for developing the alloy wheel operation into a reliable, high-quality and profitable part of the business.
Previous alloy wheel repair experience would be valuable, but it is not essential if the applicant has strong practical ability, attention to detail and the willingness to learn. Training will be provided on the specialist equipment and processes.
Who this role would suit
We are looking for someone who has already demonstrated a strong work ethic in a practical environment.
This experience may have been gained within:
- An accident repair centre
- Vehicle valeting or detailing
- Vehicle preparation
- SMART repair
- Paint or bodyshop work
- Engineering or manufacturing
- Machining or fabrication
- Another hands-on technical trade
Applicants should be able to demonstrate experience of working to high quality standards, taking responsibility for their own work and using tools or machinery safely.
Direct alloy wheel repair experience is not essential, as full training will be provided. However, this is not an entry-level or school-leaver position. We are looking for someone who can build on existing workplace experience and develop into a specialist alloy wheel repair technician.
Main responsibilities
Alloy wheel repair
- Inspect alloy wheels and determine whether they are suitable for repair
- Record existing damage and complete pre-repair inspections
- Prepare diamond-cut and painted alloy wheels for repair
- Break tyre beads safely while leaving tyres fitted to the rims
- Operate the diamond-cut alloy wheel lathe and wheel blasting equipment
- Prepare, prime, paint, lacquer and cure repaired wheels
- Use UV and infrared curing equipment correctly
- Produce consistent colour, finish and lacquer quality
- Complete final safety and quality inspections
- Identify wheels that are cracked, distorted or unsuitable for the available repair process
- Maintain accurate repair and quality-control records
- Keep machinery, tools and the wheel repair area clean and maintained
Vehicle finishing
- Machine-polish repaired panels and completed vehicles
- Remove minor paint defects safely
- Carry out final vehicle presentation and valeting
- Inspect completed repairs before customer handover
- Fit vehicle protection materials where required
- Report defects or incomplete work before vehicles leave the workshop
- Help ensure completed vehicles meet Carr Body Repair’s quality standards
Workshop support
- Maintain clean and organised wheel, polishing and valeting areas
- Support general workshop housekeeping
- Look after tools, equipment and customer vehicles
- Help move vehicles and work through the workshop when required
- Work with the panel, MET and paint departments to meet completion targets
- Follow health and safety, COSHH and equipment operating procedures
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of the department

Desirable experience
Experience in one or more of the following would be beneficial:
- Diamond-cut alloy wheel repair
- Painted alloy wheel refurbishment
- Automotive paint preparation or refinishing
- Machine polishing and paint correction
- Vehicle valeting or detailing
- SMART repair
- Operating CNC or other precision machinery
Direct alloy wheel experience is not essential. We are more interested in practical ability, care, attitude and the willingness to be trained properly.
