Production & Build Assistant
Location: Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham
Hours: Fixed Term, Part-Time, 20 hours per week | ASAP until 10th January 2027
Salary: £13.45 per hour
Parallux is a new events company specialising in the creation of immersive seasonal experiences. Our flagship project is the launch of a brand-new Winter Light Trail at The Belfry Hotel & Resort, with ambitions to expand into additional venues and event concepts across the UK.
This is a unique opportunity to join the business from the very beginning and play a hands-on role in bringing our first event to life. We are looking for someone practical, reliable and hardworking who enjoys woodworking, construction and the varied nature of live events.
Construction and fabrication will be at the heart of this role, but you will also be involved in every stage of delivering the event. From constructing wooden huts and creating bespoke installations through to helping with the on-site build, supporting live event nights and assisting with the de-rig, no two days will be the same.
This isn’t a large corporate environment with rigid job descriptions. We’re looking for someone who is happy to get stuck in, work as part of a small team and turn their hand to whatever is needed. The Role
Workshop & Construction Responsibilities
- Constructing wooden huts, structures and event infrastructure.
- Carrying out general woodworking, fabrication and construction tasks.
- Building bespoke scenic elements and installations.
- Working from drawings, measurements and verbal briefs.
- Safely using hand tools and power tools.
- Preparing materials and components for installation.
- Repairing, adapting and maintaining existing event equipment.
- Painting, finishing and dressing structures where required.
- Keeping workshop and storage areas clean, organised and safe.
- Helping prepare, load and transport equipment to event sites.
Event Responsibilities
- Supporting the on-site build and installation of the Winter Light Trail.
- Installing wooden structures, scenic elements, signage and event equipment.
- Working alongside the wider production team, suppliers and contractors.
- Helping to ensure installations are completed safely and on schedule.
- Assisting with general site preparation and event logistics.
- Supporting the team during the live run of the event.
- Potentially assisting with bar service and other customer-facing duties.
- Helping respond to practical and operational issues during event nights.
- Supporting the event de-rig and removal of equipment from site.
- Cleaning, checking, sorting and returning equipment to storage after the event.
Typical Day-to-Day Tasks
- Measuring, cutting and assembling timber.
- Constructing wooden huts and other event structures.
- Building and finishing bespoke installations.
- Preparing tools, materials and equipment.
- Painting, repairing and adapting event components.
- Loading and unloading vehicles.
- Organising equipment in the workshop and storage areas.
- Installing structures and equipment on site.
- Supporting event operations and bar service where required.
- Dismantling installations following the event.
- Cleaning, sorting and preparing equipment for future use.
About You
We’re looking for someone who is:
- Practical and confident working with their hands.
- Reliable, punctual and hardworking.
- Comfortable using common hand tools and power tools.
- Interested in woodworking, construction, fabrication or live events.
- Able to follow instructions and work safely.
- Proactive and willing to take ownership of tasks.
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a small team.
- Flexible and willing to help across different areas of the event.
- Happy working in a workshop and on outdoor event sites.
- Comfortable undertaking physical work, including lifting and moving equipment.
- Available to work occasional evenings and weekends when agreed in advance.
- Excited by the opportunity to help create a brand-new visitor experience.
Skills & Experience
Previous experience in woodworking, carpentry, construction, fabrication, set building, event production or a similar practical role would be advantageous. However, attitude, reliability and a willingness to learn are just as important.
Experience in any of the following would be beneficial:
- Carpentry or joinery.
- General construction.
- Set building or scenic fabrication.
- Using hand tools and power tools.
- Reading drawings and working from measurements.
- Painting and finishing.
- Event setup and de-rig.
- Warehousing and stock organisation.
- Bar work, hospitality or customer service.
- Working safely on active construction or event sites.
A full UK driving licence would be required, as the role will involve work at the event site and may include transporting equipment and materials.
