Do you know streetworks and utilities inside out – and have a passion for helping others succeed?
Simply Learning is growing, and we’re looking for an experienced Streetworks & Utilities Trainer to join our team and help us deliver high-quality training to the people working on – and entering – the UK’s utilities and infrastructure networks.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who has real industry experience and wants to use that knowledge to develop others.
Whether your background is in NRSWA, streetworks, utilities, highways, gas, water, telecoms or related infrastructure, we want to hear from you.
You’ll be joining a growing training organisation with a strong reputation for practical, industry-focused training across the construction, utilities, safety and green skills sectors.
What you'll be doing
As a Streetworks & Utilities Trainer, you’ll deliver engaging, professional and compliant training across your areas of competence.
Your role will include:
- Delivering NRSWA/Streetworks and utilities training to new and experienced learners.
- Delivering both accredited and non-accredited programmes within your approved skillset and registrations.
- Combining classroom theory with practical, hands-on training and assessment.
- Creating an engaging learning environment where learners feel supported and confident.
- Assessing learners fairly, consistently and in line with awarding organisation requirements.
- Sharing your real-world industry knowledge, experience and best practice.
- Promoting safe working practices and challenging unsafe or poor practice.
- Ensuring training and assessment meets required quality, compliance, health and safety and safeguarding standards.
- Supporting the development of training materials, practical exercises and new courses.
- Keeping learner records, assessment documentation and reporting accurate and up to date.
- Providing learners with appropriate information, advice and guidance throughout their learning journey.
- Maintaining your own CPD, registrations, qualifications and industry knowledge.
- Looking after training equipment, materials and practical training areas.
- Working closely with the wider Simply Learning team to continually improve the learner experience and the way we deliver training.
What we're looking for
We’re looking for someone who is knowledgeable, practical, approachable and genuinely enjoys helping people learn.
You'll ideally have:
- Current or recent industry experience within streetworks, utilities, highways or a related discipline.
- Relevant vocational qualifications and industry competence.
- Appropriate NRSWA/Streetworks qualifications and/or experience.
- Experience of working within the utilities or infrastructure sector.
- A good understanding of health and safety and safe working practices.
- A recognised teaching and/or assessing qualification, such as Level 3 Education & Training / PTLLS, AET, CAVA, TAQA or equivalent – or a willingness to work towards one.
- Good written, verbal and IT skills.
- The ability to communicate technical information clearly to people with different levels of experience.
- A professional and positive approach to learners, colleagues and clients.
Most importantly, you’ll know your subject and be able to bring it to life.
Why join Simply Learning?
At Simply Learning, we believe the best training comes from people who understand the industry.
You won’t simply be standing at the front of a classroom reading from a presentation. We want our trainers to share experience, demonstrate best practice, challenge learners and make training relevant to the real world.
You’ll have access to our purpose-built Quay Corner Training Centre in Jarrow, including dedicated training rooms and practical training environments.
As our utilities provision continues to grow, there is also the opportunity to become involved in the development of new programmes, practical training facilities and industry partnerships.
We’re an ambitious business, and we want our trainers to grow with us.
You'll be joining a team that values:
Industry experience – We respect the knowledge that comes from doing the job.
Quality – We take compliance, assessment and learner outcomes seriously.
People – We want learners to feel supported, respected and encouraged.
Improvement – We’re always looking for better ways to deliver training.
Professionalism – We do what we say we’ll do and take pride in our work.
This could be the role for you if…
You’ve spent years working in the utilities or streetworks industry and are now ready to pass that knowledge on to others.
You might already be an experienced trainer looking for a new challenge, or you could be an experienced industry professional looking to make the move into training.
If you have the technical knowledge, practical experience and personality to engage learners, we can support the development of your training career.
