Business Services Assistant
About the Role
Reporting to the relevant Service Manager, you will provide administrative support to the service and wider team to assist service delivery, operational efficiency, and continuous improvement across council services.
This role is office-based and suited to someone who is highly organised, detail-oriented, and comfortable working with records, systems, documentation, and internal stakeholders in a professional environment. Full training and system access will be provided.
What You'll Be Doing
- Providing administrative support to the service and wider team
- Maintaining accurate records, files, and documentation
- Responding to telephone, email, and face-to-face enquiries professionally and promptly
- Processing and managing information using relevant systems and databases
- Assisting with organising workloads and prioritising tasks to meet deadlines
- Supporting colleagues with general office and administrative duties
- Ensuring all work is completed in line with organisational procedures and quality standards
- Handling confidential information appropriately and in accordance with information governance requirements
- Always working in a professional, confidential, and courteous manner
Requirements
Essential
- Previous experience in an administrative or clerical role
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to plan, organise, and prioritise workload effectively
- Good attention to detail and accuracy
- Working knowledge of relevant office systems, equipment, processes, and procedures
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion
- Understanding of professional standards, confidentiality, and workplace conduct
- Right to work in the UK, with documentation available for verification
- Ability to provide references covering the last two years, including verification of any employment gaps
Desirable
- Previous experience working within a local authority or public sector environment
- Familiarity with information governance procedures and compliance requirements
- Experience using administrative databases and record management systems
