Job Title: Part-Time Warehouse Operative – Order Picking & Dispatch
Company: Bear and Koala Ltd
Location: Unit 1, Newport Business Park, Newport, Pembrokeshire, SA42 0LT
Hours: 15 hours per week. 1pm–4pm, Monday to Friday. Some days you may need to stay on an extra 10 to 30 minutes until the courier collection has gone, paid at the same rate.
Pay: £12.71 per hour (Living Wage)
About Us
We're a fast-growing e-commerce business making natural dog treats, aquatic food and similar products. We're looking for a reliable, hands-on Warehouse Operative to pick and dispatch orders from our Newport site.
What the job actually involves
You'll be working with natural animal products, so some of what you handle has a strong smell (think dried meat, chews, and raw animal by-products). If that's not for you, this role won't be a good fit. If you don't mind it, it's a genuinely enjoyable, hands-on job with a friendly small team.
The core of the role is getting each day's orders out of the door: picking and packing customer orders, getting them labelled and ready for courier collection. Alongside that, you'll occasionally put together larger wholesale orders or prep stock for onward shipment.
Responsibilities
- Pick and pack B2C customer orders accurately and securely
- Apply the correct courier labels and hand orders over at collection
- Put together wholesale orders and prep stock for onward shipment when required
- Inspect, weigh, and label products to company and food hygiene standards
- Handle animal by-products (chews, bones, dried treats) in line with our hygiene procedures
- Carry out quality checks before dispatch, flagging any products that don't meet standard
- Keep accurate records of stock and dispatch activity
- Keep the warehouse clean, tidy, and pest-free
- Follow basic food hygiene practices (handwashing, correct storage, avoiding cross-contamination)
What we're looking for
- Comfortable handling strong-smelling animal products
- Good attention to detail with picking, labelling, weighing, and stock accuracy
- Confident working through an order list on a screen and getting it right first time
- Able to lift and move boxes up to 24kg
- Reliable, organised, and able to work independently once trained
- A genuine commitment to cleanliness and hygiene in a food-handling environment
- Available 1pm–4pm, Monday to Friday, with a bit of flexibility to stay 10 to 30 minutes later on the days the courier runs late
- Able to reliably travel to Newport, Pembrokeshire, SA42 0LT. Being local is a real advantage given the daily start
- Based in and authorised to work in the UK
A Level 2 Food Hygiene certificate isn't required to apply, but you'll be expected to complete one shortly after starting, which we'll pay for.
Previous warehouse, e-commerce fulfilment, food production, or animal handling experience is a bonus but not essential. We'll train you on our specific processes and hygiene requirements.
Benefits
- £12.71 per hour
- Consistent weekday afternoons, 1pm–4pm
- Company-funded Food Hygiene certificate
- Small, supportive team and a clean, well-organised workspace
- Free on-site parking
- Casual dress
