We are looking for someone who can support the nursery at the core part of the day and to support with lunchtimes. Ideally we are looking for someone who holds an relevant childcare qualification at minimum Level 2, has some experience working within an early years setting, or working with children.

Job Purpose
The Nursery Lunchtime Supervisor is responsible for supporting the smooth, safe and enjoyable running of lunchtime within the nursery. The role involves supervising and supporting children during meals, promoting healthy eating and positive mealtime experiences, maintaining high standards of hygiene and ensuring children are kept safe and appropriately supervised at all times.
The successful candidate will be caring, patient and attentive, with a positive approach to working with young children.
Key Responsibilities
Supervision and Care of Children
- Supervise children throughout the lunchtime period, ensuring their safety and wellbeing at all times.
- Support children to sit safely and appropriately during mealtimes.
- Encourage a calm, happy and sociable atmosphere at the table.
- Assist younger children with eating and drinking where required, while encouraging independence and self-help skills.
- Engage positively with children and model good manners and appropriate behaviour.
- Be aware of individual children's needs and provide appropriate support.
- Support children before and after lunch, including transitions to and from the dining area or classroom.
Food Safety and Allergies
- Follow the nursery's procedures relating to food allergies, intolerances, dietary requirements and medical needs.
- Ensure children receive the correct meals in accordance with information provided by the nursery.
- Remain vigilant regarding children with allergies and immediately report any concerns to a senior member of staff.
- Follow safe food-handling and hygiene procedures at all times.
Cleaning and Hygiene
- Prepare tables and eating areas ready for lunchtime.
- Maintain a clean and hygienic environment throughout the lunch period.
- Clear tables following meals and ensure eating areas are left clean and tidy.
- Clean and sanitise tables, chairs and other relevant surfaces in accordance with nursery procedures.
- Encourage and support children with appropriate handwashing and hygiene routines before and after meals.
- Deal appropriately with spillages and food waste.
Safeguarding and Health & Safety
- Follow the nursery's safeguarding and child protection policies and procedures at all times.
- Maintain appropriate supervision and ensure children are never left unsupervised.
- Be alert to any concerns regarding a child's welfare and report these immediately in accordance with safeguarding procedures.
- Follow all health and safety, food hygiene, infection control and risk-assessment procedures.
- Report accidents, incidents, hazards or concerns promptly to the Nursery Manager or designated member of staff.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding children, families and nursery matters.
Teamwork
- Work cooperatively with nursery practitioners, kitchen staff and the management team.
- Communicate relevant information about children's eating, behaviour or wellbeing to the appropriate member of staff.
- Follow reasonable instructions provided by the Nursery Manager, Deputy Manager or room leaders.
- Contribute to maintaining a welcoming, respectful and professional nursery environment.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties appropriate to the role.
Person Specification
Essential
The successful candidate should:
- A childcare qualification, ideally at Level 2 minimum
- Have a warm, caring and patient approach towards children.
- Be reliable, punctual and responsible.
- Have good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Be able to work effectively as part of a team.
- Understand the importance of safeguarding children.
- Understand the importance of hygiene and cleanliness within an early years environment.
- Be able to follow instructions, policies and procedures carefully.
- Be attentive and able to supervise children effectively.
- Be willing to undertake relevant training as required.
Desirable
- Previous experience of working with children, particularly children aged 0–5.
- Previous experience within a nursery, preschool, school or childcare environment.
- Knowledge of food hygiene and allergy procedures.
- Food Hygiene qualification.
- Paediatric First Aid qualification.
- Safeguarding training.
