We are seeking a professional, customer-focused and proactive Security Officer to join our team at a prestigious multi-tenanted office building in Cambridge North.
This role is pivotal in maintaining a safe, secure and welcoming environment for tenants, visitors, contractors and building staff. As the first point of contact for many occupiers and guests, you will combine excellent customer service with strong security awareness, ensuring the building operates safely and efficiently at all times.
The successful candidate will be responsible for access control, security patrols, incident management, health and safety monitoring, and supporting the day-to-day operation of a modern office environment. You will work closely with the Property Management and Facilities Management teams to deliver a first-class service to all building users.
Key ResponsibilitiesSecurity & Access Control
- Monitor and manage access to the building, ensuring only authorised persons gain entry.
- Verify identification and maintain visitor management procedures for visitors, contractors and delivery personnel.
- Monitor CCTV, alarm systems and other security systems, investigating and escalating incidents as required.
- Conduct regular internal and external patrols of the building and surrounding estate.
- Maintain the security of tenant areas, common parts, plant rooms and other restricted locations.
- Respond promptly to security incidents, suspicious activity and emergency situations.
Customer Service & Occupier Engagement
- Provide a professional and welcoming presence within the reception and communal areas.
- Act as a first point of contact for tenants, visitors and contractors.
- Assist occupiers with building access issues, enquiries and service requests.
- Maintain positive working relationships with tenants and support a high-quality customer experience.
- Ensure communal areas are presented to a high standard and report any defects or concerns.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Monitor compliance with site health and safety procedures.
- Support fire safety measures, including routine checks, alarm activations and evacuation procedures.
- Assist with emergency response procedures, including first aid where qualified.
- Report hazards, maintenance defects and potential risks to the Facilities Management team.
- Monitor contractor activities and ensure compliance with site rules and permit-to-work procedures.
Incident Reporting & Administration
- Maintain accurate records of incidents, patrols, inspections and daily activities.
- Complete detailed incident reports and escalate issues appropriately.
- Liaise with emergency services, contractors and building management during incidents.
- Support investigations into security breaches, accidents or health and safety matters.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Valid SIA Door Supervisor or Security Guarding Licence.
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Strong observational skills and attention to detail.
- Professional appearance and demeanour.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions under pressure.
- Competent IT skills, including use of email, CCTV and visitor management systems.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a wider site team.
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Previous experience in a corporate, commercial office or business park environment.
- Experience operating CCTV and access control systems.
- First Aid at Work qualification.
- Knowledge of fire safety and emergency evacuation procedures.
- Understanding of health and safety legislation and best practice.
- Experience working within customer-facing environments such as reception, concierge or facilities management.
