Box Pharmacy, 10 High Street, Box, Corsham SN13 8NN
We are a small independent pharmacy in Box. Four qualified dispensers, one pharmacist, no head office and no regional manager. We are looking for someone to join us three days a week on the front counter — and we will train you.
No pharmacy experience needed. We will teach you the job.
The hours
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 10:00 to 18:15, with an unpaid hour and a quarter for lunch — seven paid hours a day, 21 hours a week. Fixed days. No weekends, no on-call, no shifts that may or may not happen.
The pay
£12.71 an hour to start, rising to £12.90 once you qualify as a dispenser. Workplace pension. Statutory holiday, paid.
What the job actually is — please read this part properly
Your main job is the front of the shop. Serving customers, answering the phone, handing out prescriptions, selling over-the-counter medicines, taking in scripts, keeping the shop right. That is where you will spend most of your time, and it is where we need you.
Alongside that, we will train you as a dispenser — a proper accredited qualification, paid for by us, done during your working hours, not in your own time. Once you are qualified you will be able to work in the dispensary and cover it when we need you to.
But we want to be straight with you about this from the start: the counter stays your primary role. Dispensing is something you will add, not something you will move on to. If what you actually want is a dispensary job, this is not it, and we would rather say so now than in six months.
What we need from you
Reliability and turning up. Being good with people — a lot of our customers are older, some are unwell, and quite a few know us by name. Care and attention to detail, because medicines are not something you can guess at. Willingness to do the training and finish it.
That is the list. Everything else we can teach you.
The training, specifically
Within your first three months we will enrol you on the accredited medicines counter training you are legally required to hold to sell pharmacy medicines. After that, the accredited Level 2 dispensing qualification — we pay, and it happens in work time. It typically takes 12 to 18 months.
What it's like here
There are five of us. The pharmacist manager is behind the counter every day, so you learn from someone who is actually there. It is busy — we dispense around 6,100 items a month and growing. You will be relied on early, but there will be other staff available to help you learn the role.
