As part of our continued growth, we have an opening for a part-time Bookkeeper & Practice Administrator to join our team. This is a varied role, combining hands-on bookkeeping support for our Making Tax Digital for Income Tax clients with a broad range of general practice administration — ideal for someone who enjoys variety and takes pride in keeping things running smoothly behind the scenes.

The Ideal Candidate Must Have:
- Solid bookkeeping experience, ideally AAT qualified or working towards a relevant qualification (or equivalent experience)
- Hands-on experience with cloud bookkeeping software such as Xero, QuickBooks or FreeAgent
- Confidence managing bookkeeping and filing deadlines across a number of clients at once
- Excellent communication skills, and be comfortable liaising directly with clients by phone and email
- Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office
- Previous experience within an accountancy or tax practice highly desirable
- Payroll experience is beneficial
- Excellent organisational skills and close attention to detail
- Ideally based within around 5 miles of our Braintree office, to make the in-office elements of the role easy to manage
Duties & Responsibilities
Making Tax Digital for Income Tax
- Reviewing client figures with our tax managers and making the necessary quarterly filings
- Liaising directly with clients and dealing with their queries
- Carrying out the full bookkeeping service for clients who need it
- Managing the MTD filing calendar, and keeping on top of deadlines across the client base
- General administration relating to MTD
Practice Administration
- Maintaining our client database, and keeping systems and addresses up to date
- Preparing and filing Confirmation Statements
- Managing the new client sign-up process
- Reviewing outstanding client debts
- Scanning incoming post
- Tracking company filing deadlines and keeping our internal tracker fully up to date
Possible additional scope, depending on experience
- Working within the payroll function
- Supporting with VAT returns
- P11D preparation
- ATED returns
