Aquarius Home Improvements is an established home improvement company based in Ilkeston, working across Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire.
We install bathrooms, kitchens, bedrooms and other fitted furniture, with approximately 80% of our work being bathrooms.
We are looking for an experienced Technical Surveyor who already understands how bathrooms and kitchens are physically installed and can identify potential problems before work begins.
This is a technical pre-installation role.
By the time you attend the customer's property, the project has already been designed and sold.
Your responsibility is to make sure that what has been sold can actually be installed correctly, identify any issues that may have been missed during the sales or design process, and ensure the installation team has the information and materials required to complete the job properly.
IMPORTANT - THIS IS NOT A DESIGNER ROLE
This is not a kitchen or bathroom showroom design position.
You will not be visiting customers to design rooms from scratch, produce CAD designs, build quotations or bring customers back into a showroom to complete a sale.
We do not need a sales designer.
We need someone who understands installation.
Applicants whose experience is primarily kitchen or bathroom design, CAD design, showroom sales or merchant sales are unlikely to have the technical background required unless they also have substantial practical installation knowledge.
EXPERIENCE IS ESSENTIAL
We are not looking to train someone how bathrooms or kitchens are installed.
You must already understand the products, materials, services and practical requirements involved in carrying out these installations.
You should be able to walk into a customer's property, review the proposed installation and recognise issues that could cause problems once the installation begins.
This includes understanding what installers will require on site and being able to foresee problems caused by poor planning, unsuitable products, incorrect measurements, access issues or existing site conditions.
THE ROLE
The majority of your surveys will be bathrooms, with kitchens, bedrooms and other fitted furniture making up the remainder.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Carrying out detailed pre-installation technical surveys
- Checking measurements and confirming proposed layouts
- Assessing plumbing, waste, electrical and other service requirements
- Checking walls, floors, ceilings, access and existing site conditions
- Identifying installation risks before work begins
- Spotting details that may have been missed during the sales or design stage
- Checking that specified products are suitable for the proposed installation
- Identifying additional materials or works that may be required
- Confirming what installers will need before attending site
- Recording accurate technical information for the office and installation teams
- Discussing technical matters clearly with customers
- Liaising with the installations manager and fitting teams
- Helping resolve potential problems before they become live installation issues
- Supporting the office with technical queries and job planning
There is a small sales element where appropriate, such as discussing upgrades, improvements or additional works, but this is secondary to the technical surveying role.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
You should already have a good working knowledge of:
- Bathroom installation
- Kitchen installation
- Plumbing and waste requirements
- Basic electrical considerations associated with installations
- Wall and floor preparation
- Bathroom and kitchen products
- Installation materials
- Access and practical site constraints
- The types of problems that commonly cause delays or additional work during installations
You are not expected to carry out the installation yourself, but you must understand how it is done well enough to recognise when something is wrong or likely to become a problem.
