Fire Alarm Designer – Asset Intelligence
Location - Warrington (Headquarters) Hybrid working model and Site travel
Site Locations:
Scunthorpe, Grimsby, Boston, Lincoln.
We are looking for someone who is happy to travel across these areas with hybrid working.
What you will be doing:
An opportunity has arisen for a Fire Alarm Designer to join the team Asset Intelligence at Galliford Try.
This role offers the opportunity to work on some of the UK’s most prestigious frameworks, with a focus on driving project success through effective commercial governance.
Key Responsibilities:
Design & Technical Delivery
- Develop fire alarm and detection system designs based on client requirements and site surveys
- Produce detailed design documentation including:
- Detector layouts, PA/VA systems, and zone drawings
- Cause & effect, loop schematics, panel layouts
- Fire strategies and calculations
- Ensure designs comply with relevant standards (e.g. BS5839, BS6266, BS7671, BS7273)
- Value engineer solutions to balance cost-effectiveness with compliance and performance
- Provide technical input into subcontract design packages and supplier orders
Project & Stakeholder Management
- Lead or support site visits, surveys, and 3D model reviews
- Act as a point of contact for subcontract designers
- Review subcontractor designs, pricing, and specifications for accuracy and quality
- Collaborate closely with internal teams to support tender submissions and project delivery
- Manage design changes and ensure adherence to scope and change control processes
Quality & Compliance
About You:
- Proven experience in fire systems design, including detection, PA/VA, suppression, and fire stopping
- Strong knowledge of system integration and fire equipment
- Familiarity with BIM / PAS 1192 and navigating 3D models
- Experience producing technical documentation (URS/FDS)
- Knowledge of CDM regulations and temporary works
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office
- ONC / HNC / Degree or NVQ equivalent in a relevant discipline
- Organised, proactive, and detail-oriented
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
