You're experienced in optics, you care about doing things properly, and you naturally pick up the slack when things get busy. You might be an Optical Assistant who's ready for more, a Senior OA looking for a step up, or a Team Leader or Manager from an optical background who fancies a new challenge.
Optical experience is essential for this role — but beyond that, it's really about the kind of person you are.
Boots Opticians Hemel Hempstead is a friendly franchise practice — part of the UK's favourite optician — and we're going through an exciting period of change. The practice has recently come under new ownership, we're building the team and setting the standard we want here, and we want the right person alongside us for it.
The Role
You'll be working closely with our Store Manager and the wider team, helping to keep day-to-day life in the practice running smoothly. It's a proper leadership role — not just a title. You'll be the steady presence on the floor; someone the team can turn to and patients feel comfortable with.
Looking After the Team
· Be a reliable, calm presence on the floor and lead by example
· Support and coach colleagues to deliver consistently great service
· Help with rotas, breaks and keeping the diary flowing well
· Step in for the Store Manager on their days off
· Help keep the team in good spirits and keep the team motivated
Caring for Our Patients
· Make sure every patient feels genuinely welcomed and well looked after
· Take on the harder dispenses and the more difficult conversations
· Manage queries or concerns with confidence and kindness
· Uphold the high standards Boots Opticians is known for
Keeping Things Running
· Support with opening and closing
· Help with compliance, health & safety and keeping the store looking its best
· Get involved in building the practice back up — it's a genuinely exciting time to join
Commercial Awareness
· Support the team in hitting key targets
· Communicate products and promotions naturally and confidently
· Help keep the day moving efficiently for everyone
Stock & Admin
· Assist with deliveries, stock checks and replenishment
· Help manage lab workflow, prescriptions and orders
· Manage tills and admin duties carefully and accurately
What We're Looking For

· Optical experience is essential — you'll need a solid working knowledge of a practice environment
· Warm, approachable and genuinely good with people
· A natural ability to lead
· Organised and proactive — someone who spots what needs doing and gets on with it
· Calm under pressure and good at keeping others calm too
· Commercially aware without losing sight of what actually matters: the patient in front of you
