Role Purpose
The CNC Operator is responsible for the safe, accurate and efficient operation of CNC machinery to manufacture high-quality bespoke joinery components in accordance with approved production drawings, CNC programmes, technical specifications and Company quality standards.
The role supports the manufacturing process by setting up, operating and monitoring CNC machinery, ensuring components are produced accurately, efficiently and in accordance with production schedules. Working closely with the Design, CNC Programming, Bench Joinery and Production teams, the post holder contributes to the successful manufacture of bespoke residential and commercial joinery projects.
The CNC Operator is expected to maintain high standards of machine care, quality control, housekeeping and health and safety whilst supporting continuous improvement throughout the manufacturing operation.
Key Objectives
- Operate CNC machinery safely and efficiently in accordance with Company procedures.
- Manufacture components accurately from approved CNC programmes, production drawings and job documentation.
- Ensure components consistently meet Company quality standards and production deadlines.
- Maximise CNC machine utilisation while minimising downtime.
- Carry out routine machine inspections, cleaning and preventative maintenance.
- Identify and report machine faults, tooling issues and programme errors promptly.
- Work collaboratively with Design, CNC Programming, Bench Joinery and Production teams.
- Maintain a safe, clean and organised CNC work area.
- Contribute to continuous improvements in manufacturing efficiency, machine utilisation and product quality.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate CNC woodworking machinery in accordance with production schedules.
- Load and unload sheet materials and components safely.
- Select and install appropriate tooling for each machining operation.
- Read and interpret production drawings, cutting lists, machining documentation and works orders.
- Operate CNC programmes provided by the CNC Programmer.
- Carry out machine set-up and perform test runs where required.
- Monitor machining operations to ensure components are manufactured accurately.
- Measure finished components to verify compliance with drawings and tolerances.
- Identify machining defects and report programme or tooling issues promptly.
- Carry out routine machine cleaning and daily maintenance checks.
- Replace cutters and tooling as required, ensuring correct tool management procedures are followed.
- Maintain accurate communication regarding production progress, machine performance and material requirements.
- Assist with the movement and storage of materials throughout the manufacturing department.
- Maintain housekeeping standards around CNC machinery and surrounding work areas.
- Comply with all Company Health & Safety policies, machine operating procedures and safe systems of work.
- Support colleagues across the manufacturing department to ensure efficient project delivery.
