Full job description

Are you an established ecologist ideally, with a minimum of 3 years’ experience, looking to make a positive career move working across a range of projects? Do you crave variety in your daily work, in an inspiring and supportive place to work?

Atmos Consulting has been at the heart of the net-zero economy for nineteen years, supporting our clients to realise their project goals. Due to ongoing growth and a strong pipeline of future work, we have several opportunities for Ecological/Environmental of Clerk of (ECoWs/EnvCoWs) to join our highly respected teams in Inverness and Edinburgh.

You will be working on a variety of critical projects supporting our clients to deliver projects in the renewable energy property development, infrastructure, and peatland restoration sectors across Scotland.

About this Job

This is a role that will be largely site based, either at consultant or senior level, with a degree of time spent at the desk to complete deliverables and respond to project requirements. Your time will largely be spent on the delivery of ECoWs/EnvCoWs services at sites across Scotland.

Every site and project is different. Your role will likely include a varying combination of:

Acting as on-site ecological/environmental advisor, liaising with site staff to:
- Ensure on-site compliance with schedule of environmental commitments.
- Ensuring compliance with planning conditions and regulatory requirements such as pollution prevention, EASR and/or protected species licenses.
- Delivery of toolbox talks.
- Water quality monitoring sample collection.
- Attending site meetings.
- ECoW Log Reporting.
Reporting to and assisting the Atmos Project Manager, as part of a team, for a range of small to large scale projects.
Communicating with clients and contractors, on site during construction phase of projects, reporting key issues to Atmos Project Manager.
Planning and managing surveys using various methodologies with support.
Negotiating with statutory agencies, NGOs and other stakeholders with support.
Building and maintaining relationships with existing and new clients with support.
Preparation of tenders, and support business development activities with support.
Input to site documentation such as Construction Environmental Management Plans.
Engagement with our Atmos ECoW Community of Practice.

Who are we looking for?

Essential attributes:

A BSc or MSc in a relevant subject, with a minimum of 3 years’ experience or demonstratable experience as ECoW, EnvCoW or Environmental Advisor.
Good report writing skills and attention to detail.
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to advise clients.
Excellent health and safety awareness, especially safe working practices and risk assessment related to site safety and ecological surveying.
Full current driving licence.
An Associate/ Full member of CIEEM (or equivalent body) or woring towards.
In possession of a valid CSCS card.
Have experience of protected species surveying however, this is not essential as we have a full team of ecologists to support.
Fully conversant with the framework of legislation and guidance within the UK.
Robust project management skills with the ability to plan and deliver works in line with budgets and programme deadlines.

Ideally:

An Associate/ Full member of CIEEM (or equivalent body) or woring towards.
In possession of a valid CSCS card.
Have experience of protected species surveying however, this is not essential as we have a full team of ecologists to support.
Fully conversant with the framework of legislation and guidance within the UK.
