As a Software Engineer III at JPMorganChase within Commercial & Investment Bank Payments Technology, you will serve as a seasoned member of an agile team to design and deliver trusted market-leading technology products in a secure, stable, and scalable way. You are responsible for carrying out critical technology solutions across multiple technical areas within various business functions in support of the firm's business objectives.
The SWIFT Infrastructure Technology team is responsible for providing firm-wide connectivity to the systemically important market infrastructures of SWIFT and CLS. Our secure, high-performance middleware messaging and API applications process millions of messages and trillions of dollars in payments every day, interfacing with hundreds of internal line of business applications to enable the exchange of financial messages with counterparties across the world.
You will apply your knowledge and expertise across all aspects of the software development lifecycle — from defining requirements and designs, to building, testing, and implementing solutions, and providing production support. This role requires a solid level of SWIFT product expertise and a thorough understanding of SWIFT messaging concepts, combined with a strong foundation in distributed infrastructure and associated technologies.
Job responsibilities

Execute software solutions across design, development, and technical troubleshooting, thinking beyond conventional approaches to break down complex technical problems and deliver scalable outcomes

Create secure, high-quality production code and maintain algorithms that run synchronously with appropriate systems

Leverage enterprise-authorized AI coding assist tools within the work environment to improve code quality, delivery speed, and productivity (e.g., code generation/refactoring, unit test creation, documentation), while validating outputs through peer review, automated testing, and secure coding standards

Apply knowledge of tools within the Software Development Life Cycle toolchain, including enterprise-authorized AI-assisted development and automation capabilities, to improve the value realized by automation

Produce architecture and design artifacts for complex applications while ensuring design constraints are met throughout software code development

Gather, analyze, synthesize, and develop visualizations and reporting from large, diverse data sets in service of continuous improvement of software applications and systems

Proactively identify hidden problems and patterns in data, using insights to drive improvements to coding hygiene and system architecture

Configure and implement SWIFT products including SWIFT Alliance Gateway, SWIFT Alliance Access, Web Platform, Domestic Messaging Channel services, and CLS-based applications

Automate testing and deployment of current and next versions of applications to support continuous delivery and operational stability

Build and maintain positive working relationships across the team and with business colleagues to support effective cross-functional collaboration
Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and proficient applied experience

Hands-on practical experience in system design, application development, testing, and operational stability

Experience developing, debugging, and maintaining code in a large corporate environment using one or more modern programming languages and database querying languages

Development experience in Core Java and Python, with knowledge of XML libraries

Strong understanding of MQ middleware and its appropriate use within enterprise messaging environments

Strong understanding of PL/SQL and its appropriate use in data-driven application development

Solid UNIX knowledge and shell scripting capability

Overall knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle and agile methodologies such as continuous integration/continuous delivery, application resiliency, and security

Exposure to Payments and Clearing and Financial Messaging (SWIFT)

Hands-on experience using enterprise-authorized AI-assisted software development tools within the work environment (e.g., for coding, test creation, troubleshooting, or documentation) with demonstrated ability to critically evaluate, validate, and refine AI-generated outputs for correctness, performance, and security

Understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity considerations, secure handling of inputs/outputs, and adherence to resiliency and security expectations; ability to guide peers on safe and effective usage within team practices
Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a relevant technical field

Experience working in an agile/scrum environment, including across multiple locations

Familiarity with Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) package implementation and configuration

AWS and Terraform related certifications

Solid understanding of distributed infrastructure and High Availability cluster technologies
