The ACCS department specialises in the design, manufacturing and installation of aisle containment and caging in data centres. We are seeking an Inventor 3D Modeller – Steel Fabrication Engineer to join our Team in Buntingford. This role will model 3D parts, components and frame assemblies for free-standing steel modules (predominantly 1mm, 2mm and 3mm gauge steel) using Autodesk Inventor, and to produce accurate, detailed production and assembly drawings for press brake operators and shop floor assembly operatives.
Core Duties & Responsibilities
· Model 3D parts, sub-assemblies and frames for free-standing steel modules using Autodesk Inventor (part, sheet metal and assembly environments).
· Design and detail steel sheet parts, predominantly 1mm, 2mm and 3mm gauge, applying correct bend allowances, k-factors, minimum bend radii and grain direction.
· Create accurate flat pattern developments suitable for punching and press brake forming.
· Produce detailed production drawings for press brake operators, including bend sequences, tooling notes and critical dimensions.
· Produce assembly drawings and work instructions for shop floor assembly operatives, including weld symbols, fastener call-outs and finish specifications.
· Generate and maintain accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) for parts, frames and assemblies.
· Liaise with press brake operators, welders and assembly teams to resolve manufacturability issues and drive continuous improvement.
· Work with the Design/R&D Engineer, and independently, on the design and development of new products and modules.
· Carry out design reviews and incorporate shop floor feedback to improve manufacturability, cost and lead time.
· Support continuous improvement of products and processes throughout the manufacturing process.
· Interdepartmental support and communication with sales, production and procurement.
· Work independently, prioritise own workload and provide practical engineering solutions.
· Maintain drawing registers and revision control in line with company procedures

Qualifications: Skills and Experience
· Good working knowledge of Autodesk Inventor (part, sheet metal and assembly environments) – essential.
· Working knowledge of AutoCAD – an advantage.
· Good understanding of steel sheet metal design principles – bend allowances, k-factor, minimum bend radii, grain direction and tooling/forming constraints.
· Understanding of press brake tooling and forming processes and their impact on design.
· Ability to produce accurate flat pattern developments for punching machine.
· Ability to produce clear, accurate detailed production and assembly drawings to appropriate engineering standards
· Knowledge of welding/fabrication methods (MIG welding) and standard weld symbol conventions – an advantage.
· Understanding of sheet metal materials and finishes (mild steel, galvanised, stainless steel) in 1–3mm gauges.
· Good computer skills.
· Good planning and organisational skills.
· Familiar with Microsoft Office.
· Ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
