The Thames Valley and Wessex Congenital Heart Disease Network is responsible for ensuring the delivery of seamless high-quality care, in line with national standards from fetal life into adulthood across the region. The network has a Level 1 centre at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS) and delivers high-quality care, education and research across the region in partnership with the Level 2 service based at Oxford University Hospital Foundation NHS Trust (OUH) and numerous Level 3 centres across the Thames Valley and Wessex region and parts of the South West .
The Lead Nurse (s) for the Congenital Heart Disease ODN will provide nursing leadership across the network, acting as a source of expertise , healthcare professionals, commissioning colleagues and national bodies for both Adult and Children's CHD .
The Lead Nurse (s) will work with the Network Manager, Education team and Lead Clinicians as part of a multi-disciplinary leadership team to lead the strategic and operational development of coherent and effective network arrangements, and delivery of a programme of work that addresses national and local priorities.
You will also, in partnership with the ODN Education team, play a key role in delivering and reviewing education and training for CHD within the ODN .

Key working relationships include Network Manager, Clinical lead, Lead nurses from other ODNs both regionally and nationally, Lead Educator, Data Analyst, Administration team, Nurse and medical leads from both of the tertiary centres as well as lead nurses from all the network member hospitals, Specialised commissioning leads, ICB leads.
Management and Leadership
Work autonomously across multiple professional, organisational and system boundaries and proactively plan, develop and sustain new partnerships and networks to influence and improve health, outcomes and healthcare delivery system
P rovide leadership in shaping the vision and future development of the Adult congenital heart services in collaboration with other Adult congenital cardiac nurses across the network and nationally.
Working with the ODN Management Team, the post holder will help to deliver the service specifications and CHD standards across the Network through collaborative working with L1, L2 and L3 provider organisations and commissioners .
Coordinate, lead and manage the projects within the CHD work plan and support other workstreams as appropriate across networks.
Provide an over-arching nurse leadership and co-ordination role within the network for the effective delivery of nursing care, ensuring it is responsive and flexible to patient needs for CHD.
Provide support for the resolution and investigation of complaints and serious incident investigations, identify risks to patient safety, and establish mitigations for issues that are of cross site concern and where joint learning could be delivered
To be visible and accessible and to provide forward thinking, clinical professional leadership to paediatric critical care staff at all levels across the region.
Partnership and Collaborative Working
P articipate in professional and clinical committees or projects relating to CHD across the network.
Provide strategic leadership and expert nursing oversight for congenital heart disease pregnancy pathways across the Network, working with provider organisations and system partners to standardise care, promote best practice, improve outcomes and ensure compliance with national standards.
Build strong relationships with key stakeholders in all acute trusts, ICB, and Specialised Commissioning across the region.
To work with local trusts to build on the nursing network, providing support, advice, leadership and learning across all bands of the registered and unregistered nursing workforce .
Work in collaboration with national team to review workforce and support the implementation of the workforce development plan .
The post-holder will work collaboratively with CHD Network Lead Nurses nationally to achieve national goals and share learning between networks .
Promoting equality & reducing inequalities
Work with the Network Manager to Focus on quality and effectiveness through facilitation of comparative benchmarking and auditing of services against national standards, with implementation of required improvements
Work with all relevant organisations to ensure that the best practice models of care are embedded
Participate in national/international events in order to share best practice and update your knowledge of key areas of healthcare developments
Contribute to the TVW CYP ODN annual report providing statistics, key performance indicators, service and practice developments in collaboration with network manager and data analyst
To lead on the development of specific guidance, SOPs and protocols as relevant to the development of the Network .
To provide leadership on ensuring that nationally set specifications and standards of service are consistently met, and common protocols are in use across the network .
To provide specialist support to the Level 1 organisation, Network Manager and Clinical Director to develop and deliver an annual audit programme to measure against national standards, identify shortfalls and develop an action plan to ensure continuing service improvement across the ODN
