Introducing Domaine Europe. Born from the strategic union of the Netherlands-based Code and the global powerhouse Domaine, we are now the world’s largest independent Shopify design and development Platinum Partner.
Located in Delft, our European hub continues to champion the same innovation and dedication that Code was known for, now backed by a global team of commerce experts. We don’t just follow industry trends; we create them. Together, we are writing the next chapter of commerce for a new generation of brands.
We're looking for a Senior Solutions Engineer to own the technical side of how we win work across EMEA.
This is a pre-sales role, end to end. You'll live in the space between first client conversation and signed statement of work: running discovery, architecting the solution, pressure-testing feasibility, building the prototype that makes the idea real, and writing the documentation that sets Delivery up to succeed. You will not carry billable project work or post-sale implementation, your output is a well-architected Shopify implementation solution.
We want someone who can do both halves of the job. You should be able to read an unfamiliar API spec and know within the hour whether the integration is a week or a month. You should also be able to sit across from a VP of Engineering, disagree with them, and have them thank you for it.
Location
This is a remote role only open to candidates across select European markets, including the United Kingdom, Ireland, Portugal, Spain, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Italy, and Denmark.
Discovery and requirements
-
Run structured pre-sales working sessions with client stakeholders, from C-suite to the engineers who'll live with what we build.
-
Find the real problem behind the stated requirement. Map workflows, systems, constraints, and success metrics rather than taking a feature list at face value.
-
Surface risk early. Identify the integration that won't work, the data model that won't scale, and the assumptions nobody has considered.
-
Document detailed technical requirements from your pre-sales and discovery findings, ensuring crucial client context is preserved and clear for execution teams and stakeholders.
Solution architecture
-
Architect solutions across Shopify and the systems around it, balancing what the platform does natively against extensibility, apps, and custom work.
-
Design integrations against our favorite three-letter-acronym systems: ERP, OMS, PIM, WMS, CRM. Producing the system diagrams that make the architecture legible to everyone in the room, not just senior technical stakeholders.
-
Evaluate third-party tools properly: read the API documentation, test it hands-on, and talk to the partner. We recommend on evidence, not just marketing pages.
-
Make the honest call on build versus buy versus don't, including when the answer is that we shouldn't take the project as scoped.
Demo engineering
-
Build working prototypes and proofs of concept during the sales cycle to validate feasibility and let clients see the idea rather than imagine it.
-
Write real code to do it: Liquid, JavaScript, GraphQL against the Shopify APIs, whatever the question demands.
-
Use prototypes to de-risk the estimate, not just to impress. A POC that surfaces a problem has done its job more than a 100% polished demo site.
Sales partnership
-
Partner with Sales to win well-scoped work that meets the prospect and Domaine's assumptions. You own technical credibility in the room and the integrity of the estimate.
-
Present technical detail persuasively to mixed audiences without talking down or hiding behind jargon.
-
Support proposals, SOWs, and estimates as the technical author, and know where the line that cannot be crossed on scope is when commercial pressure pushes against it.
Craft and ecosystem
-
Maintain working relationships with our integration and technology partners across the globe, and particularly the EMEA region.
-
Track what's changing in Shopify and the wider commerce ecosystem, and translate it into how we sell and what we recommend.
-
Continually contribute to improving our estimation process, scoping tooling, and overall solutioning process. You'll use them more than anyone and benefit the most from improvements and automation.
This is a senior position and we're most interested in evidence, not just years. We'd like to see most of the following:
-
You have shipped code professionally. You've held an engineering role and can still read, write, and reason about production-quality Liquid and JavaScript. You're fluent with REST and GraphQL APIs, webhooks, authentication patterns, and data flows between systems. This is not a role where technical fluency means just being able to follow the conversation, you need to be able to lead it and build on it.
-
You know Shopify deeply. Themes, Liquid, the Admin and Storefront APIs, checkout extensibility, Functions, Flow, POS, and the app ecosystem. Experience with other commerce platforms is a bonus, however not a substitute.
-
You've owned complex deals end to end. You've been the technical lead on enterprise or mid-market pursuits from first contact through signature, and you can talk through ones you won and ones you lost.
-
You've architected multi-system integrations that went live. Real ERP, OMS, PIM, or CMS work. Including the migration and ETL problems that come with those types of integrations. You can describe what broke and what you'd do differently next time.
-
You've had to say no. You can point to a deal you reshaped or walked away from because the scope, client, or platform was not the right fit. You'll be able to explain how you handled the internal and partner-facing conversations that go along with that decision.
-
You're a people person with a spine. Confident presenting to any level of seniority, comfortable being the person in the room who raises the uncomfortable technical truth, and able to do it in a way that builds trust rather than friction.
-
You work well without close supervision. Remote, distributed, cross-timezone with our Global team, managing your own day-to-day activities and operating with autonomy.
-
Fluent business English is required as our team operates globally, Dutch and/or German is a strong plus given Domaine’s client base.
Nice to have
-
Agency or consultancy background
-
Experience with iPaaS platforms such as Boomi, Mulesoft, or similar
-
Headless and composable commerce experience
-
Exposure to EMEA-specific commerce concerns like multi-market VAT, localization, and regional payment providers.
-
If you're in or near the Netherlands, our Delft office is open to you and the European team gathers there for dev days, but office proximity is not a requirement for this role.
-
You will work on fun, impactful, visible and challenging projects for growing brands in the Champions League of e-commerce.
-
Flexible location: possibility to work in our beautiful office in picturesque Delft, or hybrid- we meet up weekly during dev-days in the office in Delft, easy accessibility by public transport and car.
-
You will join an agency with high ambitions but realistic expectations. We actively facilitate a healthy work-life balance.
-
Your personal and professional development is essential to us: we spend budget and time to facilitate your growth.
-
Informal dress code and open culture – we like to feel at home! So expect to have fun with after-work drinks & team outings.
-
Being part of a team where your input will be valued and respected.
-
Continued education and personal development opportunities
-
Competitive PTO policy
-
Employer-paid pension contributions
-
Working from home allowance
-
