Senior HVDC Converter Engineer
Are you an experienced HVDC Engineer with expertise in HVDC converter stations and voltage source converter (VSC) technology, looking to work on major renewable energy and transmission infrastructure projects whilst developing your expertise alongside industry-leading specialists?
Here at PSC we are growing our HVDC capability to support an expanding portfolio of offshore wind, HVDC transmission and grid infrastructure projects across the UK and internationally. We are specifically looking for engineers who have developed meaningful experience within the HVDC converter space, whether through converter station design, converter technologies, commissioning activities, owner's engineering assignments or technical consultancy roles.
This opportunity would suit an engineer with approximately 3–5 years or more of dedicated HVDC converter experience as part of a broader engineering career, who is looking to apply and further develop that expertise whilst working alongside some of the industry's most experienced HVDC and power systems consultants.
You'll collaborate with highly experienced consultants, OEMs, developers and network operators, gaining exposure to a broad range of technically challenging projects across the full project lifecycle. From technology selection and converter station design through to design review, commissioning and operational support, you'll help deliver critical transmission infrastructure that enables the integration of renewable energy onto power systems around the world.

What You’ll Do:
This role offers a broad range of technical and consulting responsibilities, with a particular focus on HVDC converter stations and associated technologies.
Typical activities include:
- Supporting the development and delivery of HVDC transmission projects.
- Providing technical input into HVDC technology selection and converter station design.
- Supporting the specification, review and integration of HVDC converter technologies, including VSC-based systems.
- Reviewing OEM designs, technical documentation and converter station equipment specifications.
- Supporting transmission and interconnection activities associated with HVDC infrastructure.
- Contributing to the design and assessment of converter station equipment, reactive compensation systems, harmonic filtering solutions and associated electrical infrastructure.
- Assisting with factory acceptance testing, site inspections and commissioning activities.
- Undertaking technical reviews of converter station equipment, operational processes and maintenance strategies.
- Preparing high-quality technical reports and consultancy deliverables.
- Engaging directly with clients, OEMs and project stakeholders to deliver expert technical advice.
- Supporting business development activities, proposals and tender submissions.
- Collaborating with PSC's global network of HVDC and power systems specialists.
You will also have opportunities to represent PSC in industry forums, working groups and conferences, whilst building relationships with clients and supporting the continued growth of our HVDC capability.

We are particularly interested in speaking with engineers who have developed meaningful hands-on experience within the HVDC converter sector and are looking to become part of a specialist consultancy where that expertise can be further developed and shared across the wider business.
Your experience may have been gained with utilities, developers, OEMs, EPC contractors or engineering consultancies, but you will already have established a strong technical foundation in HVDC converter stations, converter technologies and transmission infrastructure.
Ideally you:
- Have approximately 3–5 years or more of direct experience supporting HVDC converter stations, converter technologies or associated HVDC infrastructure.
- Have experience working with voltage source converter (VSC) technology and/or other HVDC converter systems.
- Understand converter station equipment and associated systems such as reactive compensation equipment, harmonic filters, switchgear and transmission infrastructure.
- Have experience supporting design, commissioning, owner's engineering or technical consultancy activities associated with HVDC projects.
- Have experience working on HVDC transmission, offshore wind transmission or grid infrastructure projects.
- Are comfortable working directly with clients, OEMs and project stakeholders.
- Have strong technical report writing and communication skills.
- Can manage multiple priorities across a variety of projects.
- Demonstrate a proactive approach to learning and continuous professional development.
- Are a collaborative team player with a customer-focused mindset.
- Maintain an ethical and professional approach in all interactions.
Other desirable skills include:
- Experience supporting offshore wind transmission projects.
- Experience with converter technologies such as HVDC-VSC.
- Experience with SVC, STATCOM or reactive compensation equipment.
- Exposure to factory acceptance testing, commissioning or site-based activities.
- Experience reviewing OEM designs and technical specifications.
- Familiarity with transmission system studies and grid integration activities.
- Experience with tools such as AutoCAD and other engineering software packages.
