About the role

The post is funded by the Wellcome Trust to develop technology for volumetric voltage imaging in mammalian brains. The successful candidate will develop a new generation of stable and interpretable deep neural networks for volume reconstruction from lightfield video sequences.

This full-time, in-person postdoctoral position is based at Imperial College’s South Kensington Campus in London, UK, and is funded for 18 months initially starting in October 2026.

What you would be doing

Research Duties Include:

To take initiatives in the planning of research
To undertake original research of international excellence
To ensure the validity and reliability of data at all times
To maintain accurate and complete records of all findings
To write reports for submission to research sponsors
To attend relevant workshops and conferences as necessary

What we are looking for

Education

Research Associate: Hold a PhD (or equivalent) in mathematics, physics, engineering, or a related topic.
Research Assistant: Hold a Masters degree and nearing completion of a PhD or equivalent in in mathematics, physics, engineering, or a related topic.

Experience

Practical experience within a research environment and / or publication in relevant and refereed journals
Practical experience in a broad range of techniques, including
- Optimisation and signal processing methods
- Design and training of deep neural networks
- Lightfield imaging
- Model-based deep learning

Knowledge

Knowledge of Optimization methods, signal/image processing techniques, model-based machine learning methods
Knowledge of research methods and statistical procedures
