The role
Strathwill is an AI governance and regulatory compliance advisory firm with live digital services for structured assessments, evidence collection, reporting, and follow-up work.
The platform must support an expanding international client base, including differing regulatory, accessibility, localisation, privacy, and operational requirements across priority markets.
We are hiring a backend-leaning Full-Stack Software Engineer to own the production systems behind Strathwill customer and staff workflows. You will strengthen our Supabase and PostgreSQL application backend, integrate Product Designer work, and make payment, authentication, evidence, reporting, and operational journeys reliable as usage grows.
This is a strong mid-level individual-contributor role. You will work closely with a founder whose perspective spans law, AI, and business, and with Product Designers who work across UX, UI, and frontend delivery. You will make sound technical decisions, explain trade-offs clearly, and leave the platform easier to change, observe, and operate.
Responsibilities
- Analyse product requirements and turn them into maintainable software designs and delivery plans across the frontend and backend.
- Strengthen Supabase Edge Functions, PostgreSQL data models, APIs, asynchronous processes, and third-party integrations.
- Identify and resolve technical debt, brittle workflows, duplicated logic, and gaps in system ownership.
- Implement authentication, authorisation, ownership checks, RLS-compatible access, audit logging, and controlled data access.
- Maintain reliable customer and staff lifecycle workflows for checkout, payment webhooks, workspace activation, intake, clarification calls, and deliverables.
- Write automated unit, integration, and end-to-end tests.
- Review code and document technical decisions, interfaces, data flows, and operational risks.
- Diagnose defects and production issues through logs, tests, and reproducible evidence.
- Improve application security, reliability, performance, monitoring, backup, and recovery procedures within the managed Cloudflare and Supabase stack.
- Partner with Product Designers to make product flows technically feasible and implement responsive, accessible interfaces.
- Evaluate third-party services and dependencies against privacy and security requirements.
Skills
- Professional experience as a full-stack or backend-leaning software engineer, including shipping and maintaining production web services.
- Strong programming skills across the frontend and backend technologies used for production web applications.
- Experience with responsive interfaces, APIs, relational databases, serverless or managed backend services, version control, automated testing, and code review.
- Knowledge of secure development, authentication, authorisation, logging, and data protection.
- Ability to explain design choices and trade-offs to technical and non-technical colleagues.
- Evidence of improving an existing system, not only building new features.
- Evidence of owning work from requirements through release, monitoring, and maintenance.
Useful experience
- TypeScript or JavaScript, Node.js, PostgreSQL, Supabase, Cloudflare, and modern frontend frameworks.
- RegTech, FinTech, legal technology, security, or other regulated products.
- Systems that collect evidence, produce reports, preserve audit histories, or manage multi-step customer workflows.
- Privacy engineering, threat modelling, observability, performance work, accessibility, or applied AI governance.
What success looks like
In your first six months, you will have made the highest-risk customer and staff workflows more reliable, maintainable, and observable. You will establish clear ownership for critical services, strengthen the controls around releases and data handling, and leave technical documentation that supports future product growth. Releases should be reproducible and supported by evidence.
Right to work and sponsorship
Applicants must be able to work in the UK by the agreed start date. Strathwill may consider Skilled Worker sponsorship for this role where the role, salary, company sponsor status, and candidate meet the Immigration Rules. Sponsorship is not guaranteed and will be assessed case by case.
How to apply
Send your CV and links to relevant work where available. Include a short account of one production system you improved, the decisions you owned, and how you tested, deployed, monitored, or operated it.
