Structured Data Network EngineerJob Summary
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Structured Data Network Engineer to design, install, maintain, and troubleshoot structured cabling and network infrastructure systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality data, voice, and fibre optic cabling solutions while ensuring compliance with industry standards and customer requirements.
This role requires strong technical expertise in structured cabling, network infrastructure, testing and certification, and excellent problem-solving abilities. The engineer will work independently and as part of a project team across commercial, industrial, and data centre environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, terminate, test, and certify copper and fibre optic structured cabling systems.
- Design and implement structured cabling solutions in accordance with industry standards (TIA/EIA, ISO/IEC, and customer specifications).
- Install and maintain Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A, Cat7, and fibre optic cabling systems.
- Install cable containment systems including trunking, basket tray, conduit, and cable ladder.
- Terminate and splice fibre optic cables using fusion splicing and mechanical termination methods.
- Test and certify installations using industry-standard test equipment (e.g. Fluke Networks).
- Install, configure, and maintain communication cabinets, patch panels, racks, and associated hardware.
- Assist with LAN, WAN, wireless, and network infrastructure deployments.
- Perform fault finding and resolve network cabling and connectivity issues.
- Read and interpret technical drawings, floor plans, schematics, and cable schedules.
- Produce accurate test reports, as-built documentation, and installation records.
- Ensure all work complies with health and safety regulations and company quality standards.
- Liaise with customers, project managers, contractors, and other engineering teams.
- Support project delivery from planning through to completion.
- Participate in out-of-hours work and travel to customer sites where required.
Required Skills and Experience
- Proven experience installing structured cabling systems.
- Strong knowledge of copper and fibre optic network infrastructure.
- Experience with cable testing and certification.
- Understanding of network topology and Ethernet technologies.
- Ability to diagnose and rectify infrastructure faults.
- Experience installing server cabinets and data centre infrastructure.
- Ability to read technical drawings and installation specifications.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently and within a team.
- Full UK driving licence.
Desirable Qualifications
- BICSI Installer or Technician certification.
- CNCI or equivalent structured cabling qualification.
- Fibre optic termination and testing certification.
- ECS or CSCS card.
- IPAF and PASMA certification.
- First Aid at Work.
- Manufacturer accreditations (CommScope, Excel, Panduit, Leviton, Siemon, Corning, etc.).

Salary
Competitive, dependent on experience, plus overtime, company vehicle (where applicable), pension, and additional benefits.
Pay: £24,420.00-£40,000.00 per year
