Finance Assistant
Newcastle upon Tyne city centre (on-site) | Full-time, Permanent | £28,000 per year
This is a genuine springboard into a finance career, based in the heart of Newcastle. You'll join as Finance Assistant on a permanent contract at £28,000, with a formal salary review at six months, and spend your first year building real, practical experience across the whole finance function: accounts payable, accounts receivable, budgeting and financial analysis. You'll work directly under an experienced Finance Manager who will train you from day one, hand you more responsibility as you prove yourself, and support you towards professional study such as AAT, ACCA or CIMA as you develop.
The fundamentals are strong too. You'll work a stable Monday to Friday, 8:30am–5:00pm pattern with no evenings or weekends, from a city-centre base within easy walking distance of Central Station, Monument and the Metro, so commuting from anywhere across Tyne and Wear, Northumberland or County Durham is straightforward. Beyond salary, there's structured training, regular networking events, invitations to exclusive company hospitality events, and occasional international travel opportunities with expenses covered by the company. The role starts late July / early August 2026, and reasonable notice periods are no problem.
Your day-to-day
- Processing purchase and sales invoices accurately and on time
- Reconciling accounts and keeping financial records clean and up to date
- Tracking spend against budgets and raising anything that looks off
- Supporting month-end tasks and contributing to financial reports
- Assisting the Finance Manager with budgeting and financial analysis
- Handling supplier and internal finance queries professionally
You'll report to the Finance Manager, with clear objectives set in your first few weeks so you always know what you're working towards and how you're doing against it.
How progression works here
Your development is structured and performance-based. The six-month salary review is linked to measurable objectives agreed with your manager, and further progression into more senior finance responsibilities follows from your results, capability and the needs of the business. There are no artificial waiting periods, and no vague promises either — you'll see exactly what's expected and what it leads to.
What you'll need
- Strong numeracy and a sharp eye for detail
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, or the willingness to get up to speed fast
- Good organisation and the ability to manage your own workload
- Clear, professional communication, written and spoken
- Office, admin, retail or customer service experience is useful but not essential — full training is provided
- No degree required; GCSE Maths and English (grade 4/C or above) or equivalent preferred
- Right to work in the UK without sponsorship
