Altrad are currently looking for an experienced Quantity Surveyor / Cost Engineer to join the team in Montrose.
The successful candidate will support the commercial, financial and cost management of projects within the GSK Montrose Altrad office, working closely with Operations, Project Managers, clients, subcontractors and wider Altrad teams to ensure effective project control, strong commercial performance and contractual compliance.
The working environment is based within the GSK Montrose Altrad office, with personal protective equipment required where applicable.
Key Deliverables:
- Manage project cost control, budgets, forecasts, earned value and CVR reporting.
- Supervise Estimate-to-Cash, Hours-to-Cash, invoicing and payment processes.
- Manage project variations, change control, risk registers and commercial reporting.
- Review subcontractor applications, project costs and procurement, plant and subcontract records.
- Monitor gross margin, cash collection, aged debt and cost performance.
- Produce project reports including forecasts, cost-to-complete, productivity, S-curves and histograms.
- Administer contracts and provide commercial advice across NEC, JCT, FIDIC and bespoke forms.
- Support claims including extensions of time, loss and expense and variations.
- Undertake measurement, valuation, take-offs and preparation of Bills of Quantities (BOQs).
- Interpret drawings, specifications and methods of work.
- Maintain accurate commercial records for internal and external audits.
- Use Business Central, Power BI, iPlan, Excel and other digital systems for project reporting and analysis.
- Support project close-out and Learning From Experience (LFE) activities.
- Identify and implement commercial and business improvement opportunities.
- Ensure compliance with Altrad policies, procedures and the Altrad Integrated Management System (AIMS).
- Provide commercial leadership, mentoring and support to project teams and junior colleagues.
Key Requirements / Qualifications:
- Demonstrable experience as a Quantity Surveyor, Cost Engineer or similar commercial professional.
- Experience within engineering, construction, industrial or major project environments.
- Strong knowledge of cost control, commercial management, forecasting and financial reporting.
- Experience with CVR, budgets, earned value, valuations and applications for payment.
- Strong understanding of contract administration, variations and change control.
- Working knowledge of NEC, JCT, FIDIC and bespoke contracts.
- Experience supporting contractual claims and commercial negotiations.
- Strong understanding of labour, procurement, plant and subcontract cost control.
- Experience with measurement, valuation, take-offs and BOQs.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications and methods of work.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, with Power BI and Business Central experience desirable.
- Strong analytical, numerical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication, leadership and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to mentor junior colleagues and work effectively within multidisciplinary project teams.
- Strong commitment to commercial governance, quality, integrity and continuous improvement.
