Main Job Purpose:
To support the Management Accountant in producing accurate and timely monthly management accounts, maintaining robust financial records and controls, and providing useful financial information to managers across GBSG. The role will assist with month-end reporting, reconciliations, job-cost analysis, budgeting and the day-to-day operation of the finance function.
Essential Requirements:(Must haves - applicants should be able to demonstrate these)
· Previous experience in an accounts assistant, finance assistant or similar role
· Good understanding of double-entry bookkeeping and month-end accounting processes
· Experience of bank, balance sheet and control account reconciliations
· Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas, lookups and data analysis
· High level of accuracy, attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
· Ability to investigate discrepancies and communicate clearly with colleagues
· Good organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
· Discretion when handling confidential and commercially sensitive information
Desirable Requirements:(Useful experience or knowledge which could also be developed in the role)
· AAT qualified, part-qualified or actively studying towards an accounting qualification
· Experience of Opera, WinSims or another accounting and job-management system
· Experience within an engineering, installation, service or multi-company environment
· Understanding of job costing, work in progress, stock accounting and intercompany transactions
· Experience supporting budgets, forecasts, payroll, VAT returns or year-end audit
Key Responsibilities
The duties below provide the main scope of the role and may be adjusted as the business develops.
Monthly Management Accounts
1. Assist with the preparation of monthly management accounts to the agreed timetable.
2. Prepare and post journals, including accruals, prepayments, depreciation and other month-end adjustments, for review and approval.
3. Complete bank, balance sheet and control account reconciliations, investigating and resolving differences promptly.
4. Support preparation of profit and loss, balance sheet and cash-flow information for management review.
5. Assist with variance analysis against budget, forecast and prior periods, providing clear supporting explanations.
6. Maintain month-end schedules, working papers and an auditable record of calculations and approvals.
Job Costing, WIP and Revenue
7. Review job costs, labour, stock and subcontractor charges to ensure they are complete and allocated correctly.
8. Support work-in-progress, accrued income and deferred income calculations and reconciliations.
9. Work with operational teams to investigate incomplete, delayed or unbilled work and ensure financial records reflect project status.
10. Review job margins and highlight unusual movements, missing costs or potential financial risks to the Management Accountant.
11. Support accurate sales invoicing and intercompany recharging, including reconciliation between group companies.
Financial Control and Reporting
12. Maintain accurate nominal ledger records and assist with ledger review and housekeeping.
13. Produce regular financial reports, schedules and KPI information for managers and the Senior Management Team.
14. Support cash-flow reporting, aged debtor and creditor reviews, and other working-capital analysis.
15. Assist with maintaining fixed asset registers and reconciling additions, disposals and depreciation.
16. Identify process or control weaknesses and support practical improvements to financial systems and reporting.
Finance Operations and Compliance
17. Provide cover and support across sales ledger, purchase ledger, credit control, bank processing and payroll information as required.
18. Assist with VAT returns, statutory submissions and supporting schedules where required.
19. Provide information and evidence for year-end accounts, external audit and internal or accreditation reviews.
20. Ensure financial records are complete, appropriately authorised and retained in accordance with company procedures.
21. Respond professionally to finance queries from colleagues, customers and suppliers, escalating material issues promptly.
General
22. Build effective working relationships with Finance, Operations, Solar, Monitoring, Guarding and other departments.
23. Maintain confidentiality and comply with GBSG policies, procedures and financial controls.
24. Undertake training and continuing development appropriate to the role.
25. Carry out other reasonable finance duties consistent with the level and purpose of the position.
Pay: £35,000.00-£42,000.00 per year
