Commonwealth College of Excellence
The Commonwealth College of Excellence is establishing its inaugural Board and is seeking outstanding individuals to join us as founding Board Members. The Commonwealth College of Excellence is an established higher education provider in North London, delivering career-focused HNC and HND programmes and supporting a diverse community of learners to achieve their academic and professional ambitions. Founded in 1987, the College combines academic excellence with a strong commitment to student success and social mobility. The College is now entering an exciting new phase of growth, with plans to expand into degree provision, develop university partnerships, and work towards securing degree-awarding powers. The newly formed Board will play a pivotal role in shaping this strategic journey and helping establish CCE as a provider of higher education that meets the needs of diverse learners.

About the Role
Board Members will provide strategic leadership and oversight, supporting the College in achieving its mission while ensuring effective governance, financial sustainability and responsible stewardship.
Working collectively, the Board will:
- Set and safeguard the College's purpose, values and strategic direction.
- Oversee financial sustainability and organisational resilience.
- Ensure robust governance, risk management and compliance.
- Support and challenge executive leadership constructively.
- Promote a culture of integrity, inclusion and continuous improvement.
- Champion educational quality and student success.
Who We Are Looking For
We welcome applications from individuals with experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Education and academic leadership
- Finance, audit or investment management
- Risk management and governance
- Legal and regulatory affairs
- Human resources and organisational development
- Technology and digital transformation
- Business and entrepreneurship
- Public policy and public service
- Estates, infrastructure or sustainability
- Community engagement and stakeholder relations
We are particularly keen to build a Board with a diverse range of backgrounds, perspectives, experiences and expertise.
Previous board experience is desirable but not essential. We welcome applications from individuals who can demonstrate sound judgement, strategic thinking, commitment to public service and a willingness to contribute to effective governance.
Commitment
Board Members will be expected to:
- Attend four Board meetings per annum (in person preferred), one away day, and occasional committee meetings.
- Prepare thoroughly for meetings and participate actively in discussions.
- Uphold the highest standards of integrity, confidentiality and collective responsibility.
- Act in the best interests of the College at all times.
The anticipated time commitment is approximately 6 days per year.
