Keynvor MorLift Ltd (KML) is seeking an experienced Appointed Person – Lifting Operations to support our marine, heavy-lift and civil engineering operations across the UK.
KML delivers specialist marine construction, heavy-lift, subsea and offshore projects using a range of vessels, barges, pontoons, cranes and specialist marine plant.
We are looking for a competent and experienced lifting professional who can take responsibility for the planning of lifting operations, from initial site and operational assessment through to the production and implementation of detailed lift plans.
This is not solely a shore-based lift planning position. The successful candidate must be comfortable working within a marine environment and deploying aboard vessels, barges and other marine assets where required.
Key Responsibilities
As Appointed Person, you will be responsible for the planning and coordination of lifting operations, including:
- Developing comprehensive lift plans in accordance with LOLER, PUWER, BS 7121, applicable legislation, client standards and KML procedures.
- Determining the appropriate category and complexity of each lifting operation.
- Establishing the weight of loads, including consideration of lifting accessories, load configuration and centre of gravity.
- Determining appropriate crane locations, configurations, boom lengths, lifting radii and capacities.
- Selecting suitable cranes and lifting equipment for planned operations.
- Assessing ground, deck, barge or pontoon conditions and their suitability for the proposed lifting operation.
- Considering vessel stability, deck loading and other marine-specific factors where applicable.
- Selecting appropriate lifting accessories and determining suitable methods of attachment.
- Ensuring lifting accessories have appropriate certification, inspection and thorough examination records.
- Establishing appropriate exclusion zones and controls to minimise dropped-object and lifting risks.
- Assessing environmental conditions including wind, weather, visibility, sea state and other operational limitations.
- Identifying hazards within the lifting area and incorporating appropriate controls into the lift plan.
- Ensuring an appropriately competent Lift Supervisor is designated for each lifting operation.
- Ensuring personnel involved in lifting operations understand the lift plan, their responsibilities and the required control measures.
- Liaising with Crane Operators, Lift Supervisors, Slinger/Signallers, Vessel Masters, project teams, engineers and other relevant personnel.
- Producing clear lift plans, drawings, crane configurations, calculations and supporting documentation.
- Reviewing third-party lift plans and lifting arrangements where required.
- Planning complex, tandem and multi-crane lifting operations where required.
- Ensuring cranes involved in tandem lifting operations are compatible with the planned operation.
- Assessing potential transfer of load between cranes during tandem or multi-crane operations.
- Attending project sites and vessels to undertake surveys and assess proposed lifting operations.
- Providing technical lifting advice to KML project and operational teams.
- Supporting the continuous improvement of KML's lifting procedures and standards.
Essential Qualifications & Competence
Applicants must be able to demonstrate:
- Current CPCS A61 Appointed Person – Lifting Operations (Blue Card) or recognised equivalent.
- Minimum 5 years' comprehensive experience in lifting operations.
- Minimum 2 years' demonstrable experience planning lifting operations.
- Strong practical and theoretical knowledge of lifting operations.
- Strong working knowledge of LOLER, PUWER and BS 7121.
- Demonstrable experience developing and implementing lift plans.
- Knowledge of crane capacities, configurations, duty charts, lifting radii and operational limitations.
- Knowledge of lifting accessories, including certification, markings, capacities, inspection and thorough examination requirements.
- Understanding of crane and lifting equipment maintenance, inspection, testing and thorough examination requirements.
- Ability to assess operational hazards and determine appropriate control measures.
- Ability to work independently and take responsibility for the planning of lifting operations.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with operational personnel, project teams and clients.
