Part time up to 32 hours pw - £40-45k ( pro rata)

Office based - near Chelmsford

The Belsteads group is situated on the outskirts of Chelmsford, set in peaceful 11 acre grounds. We have 3 x children's homes supporting vulnerable children with a range of learning disabilities & complex needs. The welfare of our children is central to everything we do.

This is not a traditional HR role. Whilst a good understanding of employment law and HR processes is important, we are looking for someone whose greatest strengths are communication, emotional intelligence, mediation and leadership.

This role will play a key part in supporting our homes to maintain the high-quality culture, leadership and workforce development expected by Ofsted

About You

We are looking for someone who is passionate about people and who believes that positive workplace culture is fundamental to achieving the very best outcomes for children and that children receive the very best care when staff feel valued, supported and empowered.

You will build trusting relationships, ensure workplace harmony , develop leaders and help create a workplace culture where kindness, accountability and professionalism thrive at all levels. You will be approachable and visible within the Belsteads Homes. Someone who people feel comfortable speaking to, particularly during any challenging situations.

You will be calm, confident and compassionate when managing difficult conversations and have the ability to mediate any conflict before it escalates. You will possess excellent emotional intelligence and be able to balance empathy with professional challenge, supporting colleagues whilst maintaining high standards of accountability.

You will understand that workplace culture is shaped through everyday conversations, behaviours and relationships, and you will actively champion kindness, respect and psychological safety across the organisation.

A good understanding of employment law and HR practice is important. However, we are looking for someone whose greatest strengths lie in relationship building, conflict resolution, coaching and influencing others.

Above all, you will share our values, have a genuine passion for supporting others to succeed, and recognise that investing in our people ultimately improves the lives and outcomes of the children we care for.

Staff Wellbeing & Culture Lead role will act as a central point for any staff concerns and help develop a culture where staff feel respected and supported.

Creating Positive Workplace Culture

Deliver culture workshops
Improve communication.
Lead mediation and resolve areas of contention

Employee Relations

Provide advice on HR matters.
Support investigations.
Support grievances.
Support absence management.

Leadership

Build relationships across the organisation.
Develop leaders.
Promote wellbeing.
Champion organisational values.

Required experience / skills:

Coaching managers and leaders.
Experience resolving workplace concerns and disaccord
Experience of leading mediation, organisational development, staff wellbeing
Trauma-informed leadership highly desirable
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
Facilitating difficult conversations.
Understanding/knowledge of employment law and HR best practice.
Experience working within health, social care, education or a similarly regulated environment is highly desirable

Success in this role will not be measured by the number of HR cases managed, but by the strength of relationships built, the confidence of our leaders, workplace harmony, improvements in staff wellbeing and retention, and ultimately the positive experiences and outcomes of the children we support.
