Overview
For an Ofsted-registered supported accommodation service for 16–17-year-old looked after children, including unaccompanied asylum-seeking children (UASC), there is no separate “UASC Registered Manager” specification. The Registered Service Manager must meet the requirements under the Supported Accommodation (England) Regulations 2023 and demonstrate the knowledge and skills to meet the specific needs of the children the service supports.
A suitable Registered Service Manager should typically have:
* At least 2 years’ relevant experience in working with children or adults in a residential support setting, gained within the previous 5 years.
* Strong knowledge of:
* The Supported Accommodation (England) Regulations 2023.
* Ofsted Quality Standards.
* Safeguarding and child protection.
* Risk assessment and management.
* Care planning and pathway planning.
* Multi-agency working with local authorities and partner agencies.
* The ability to oversee all properties within the registered service and ensure compliance across every address.
* Good leadership, supervision, quality assurance, recruitment, and staff development skills.
* Satisfactory enhanced DBS checks and evidence of good character, integrity, and physical and mental fitness.
For services supporting UASC, Ofsted would also expect the manager to understand:
* Immigration and asylum processes.
* Age assessment issues.
* Trafficking and modern slavery risks.
* Cultural competence and trauma-informed practice.
* Working with interpreters.
* Supporting education, health, and emotional wellbeing for separated children.
While not a legal requirement, the following qualifications are highly desirable:
* Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (or equivalent).
* Safeguarding Level 3 training.
* Prevent awareness training.
* Trauma-informed practice training.
* UASC and child trafficking training.
Pay: £38,000.00-£43,000.00 per year
