Job Description
We are seeking an organised and practical Engineering Administration & Technical Assistant to provide day-to-day administrative and technical support to the Product Development team at our Lancaster site.
This is a junior role suited to someone starting their career in engineering or product development. Full training will be provided. The successful candidate will help maintain laboratory records, prepare samples, support straightforward testing and prototyping, and assist engineers with general departmental activities.
Key Accountabilities
- Maintain laboratory equipment records, calibration logs and consumable stock lists
- Help keep the laboratory and equipment organised, clean and ready for use
- Arrange servicing or calibration activities when requested by the engineering team
- Prepare equipment and samples for routine laboratory tests
- Carry out straightforward tests by following approved instructions and under guidance
- Enter test results accurately into templates, spreadsheets and project records
- Support basic prototype, fixture and sample preparation activities
- Assist with 3D printing and laser cutting after training
- Help engineers with simple assembly, labelling and preparation of development parts
- Format and update test reports using existing templates
- Prepare, label and organise samples for testing or external evaluation
- Support simple assembly and build activities by following instructions
- Pack and record samples for internal teams, suppliers or test laboratories
- Provide general administrative and practical support to the engineering team
- Help organise meetings, actions, files, purchase requests and laboratory supplies
- Follow company procedures and contribute ideas for simple improvements
- Undertake other reasonable tasks to support departmental objectives
- Maintain organised electronic and paper records for development work
- Assist with data entry, document control, meeting notes and department KPI updates
- GCSEs or equivalent, including English, Science and Maths, are preferred
- A Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in engineering, manufacturing, administration or a related subject would be helpful but is not essential
- Applications are welcomed from graduate or college leavers as well as candidates with transferable administrative or practical skills
- Good organisation and attention to detail
- Able to follow written instructions and record information accurately
- Basic practical ability and an interest in engineering, science, products or testing
- Comfortable using Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
- Clear and professional communication skills
- Willingness to learn new tasks and ask for guidance when needed
- Reliable, flexible and able to manage a varied workload
- Able to work independently on routine tasks and as part of a team
- Committed to safe working, quality and accurate record keeping
- No previous specialist laboratory or engineering experience is required
- An interest in technical drawings, 3D printing, prototyping or product testing would be useful
- Any experience of administration, data entry, practical projects, workshop activities or manufacturing is desirable
- Training will be provided for laboratory equipment, test methods, quality procedures and relevant software
Previous work experience is desirable but not essential
