Accident Repair Technician (MET) Apprenticeship – Level 3

FMG Repair (Zig Up) Falkirk are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join the team as an MET Technician Apprentice. This apprenticeship provides a structured route into the automotive accident repair industry, combining paid employment with a nationally recognised Level 3 qualification. You will develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to inspect, remove, repair and refit mechanical, electrical and trim (MET) components on accident-damaged vehicles.
Working alongside experienced technicians, you will gain practical experience using the latest diagnostic equipment, specialist tools and manufacturer repair methods, providing an excellent foundation for a long-term career within the vehicle accident repair industry.
Assist with the removal, repair and refitting of mechanical, electrical and trim (MET) components on accident-damaged vehicles.
Learn to inspect vehicles and identify damaged mechanical, electrical and trim components.
Support the diagnosis of faults using manufacturer-approved diagnostic equipment.
Remove and refit vehicle components, including bumpers, lights, doors, glass, interiors, wiring and associated systems.
Carry out repairs in accordance with manufacturer methods, industry standards and health and safety requirements.
Assist with wheel alignment, suspension checks and the replacement of mechanical and electrical components where required.
Complete quality checks to ensure repairs meet manufacturer specifications before vehicles are returned to customers.
Maintain a clean, safe and organised working environment.
Work closely with Panel Technicians, Paint Technicians and Vehicle Damage Assessors to ensure repairs are completed efficiently.
Follow all company policies and procedures, including health and safety and environmental standards.
Attend all required apprenticeship training sessions and complete work-based assignments.
40 hours per week, typically Monday to Friday.
Normal working hours are usually 8:30am – 5:30pm, although these may vary depending on the employer.
Approximately 20% of your working week will be dedicated to Off-the-Job (OTJ) learning, delivered through online classrooms, face-to-face sessions and block release training at a training centre in Motherwell.
Apprentices are employed directly by FMG Repair (Zig Up)
Training includes week-long block release, which requires travel and overnight stays away from home.

All training is delivered in line with the Level 3 Accident Repair Technician Apprenticeship Standard and ESFA requirements, providing a nationally recognised qualification and the practical skills required to become a qualified MET Technician.
Level 3 Accident Repair Technician (MET) Apprenticeship
Duration: 30 months, plus End Point Assessment (EPA).
Covers workplace competence, technical knowledge, manufacturer repair methods and Off-the-Job learning.
Successful completion provides a nationally recognised qualification and opportunities to progress into a qualified MET Technician role within the automotive accident repair industry.
All apprentices are paid at least the National Minimum Apprenticeship Wage, with opportunities for progression as skills and experience develop.

Aged 16 or over.
GCSE (or equivalent) grade 4–9 (A*–C) in English and Maths (Predicted grades are accepted, provided the final results meet the required entry requirements.)
A genuine interest in vehicle accident repair and automotive technology.
Good practical skills and excellent attention to detail.
Strong problem-solving skills and a willingness to learn.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Basic IT skills for completing documentation and communicating effectively.
Working towards or holding a full UK driving licence is desirable.
