Full job description

Hi There!

We're Roots Kitchens Bedrooms Bathrooms, established 1998, we're a small business based between Faversham and Canterbury that design, supply and install complete rooms direct to home owners.

We're looking to recruit a full time, employed Project Manager

This is an existing role, replacing a colleague who's moving onto other things.

Minimum Requirements:

Full UK Driving licence (you will be driving a large van)
Physically fit (you will be lifting products and assisting during the strip out of rooms and disposal of waste)
Ability to accurately measure rooms
Ability to calculate material requirements from plans
Ability to carry out small practical tasks to solve snags
Excellent communication skills (to client, colleagues and sub contractors, by voice and in writing)

Where this role fits in our process:

A room has been sold by our designers

Survey the room
The designers will have created a survey pack that will include all details about room and the products. You will measure the room checking for errors.
You will talk to the client and ensure they understand everything they are getting, as well as know the things they are not getting.
Work with the designer to find solutions to problems uncovered or alterations requested
Schedule the work
Write a plan of work
book the sub contractors for this job
in the weeks before the job, remind the sub contractors the job is coming up

Before the job starts:

Book in and check items that arrive from suppliers
Chase overdue items
React to overdue/late deliveries (re plan schedule, find alternatives, keep clients and colleagues informed)
Collect materials from suppliers

When the job starts:

Ensure home is protected from damage (floor protection, dust sheets)
Assist on the strip out of room
Remove waste from room
Deliver items to site as needed
Be available to help sub contractor safely lift heavy items
Ensure sub contractors have all materials they need and support them as things change (eg: getting more material so they can stay working on site)
Keep client informed of progress
Inform sub contractors of developments that may affect them (reschedule others if a trade takes longer than estimated)
Respond to client requests during work (eg: arranging additional products with designer)
Keep a snags list and organise work to be carried out as soon as practicable
Get client sign off when job is complete
Encourage client testimonials
Ensure sites are clean, tidy and safe for everyone to work in

Once a job is complete:

Respond to client service requests
investigate issues
price work with designers support (if it’s not under warranty) and bill clients
arrange sub contractors
Carry out smaller tasks directly (eg: change cistern washer)

Other tasks

Check material invoices from suppliers & sub contractors for accuracy and approve for payment
Enter bills into our accounting system
Routine update of labour cost templates used by the designers
Keep abreast of key metrics and report them to our weekly team meeting.
Ensure vehicles are roadworthy and presentable
organise service, MOT, clean vehicles, keep organised van stocks
Carry out surveys in advance of sale where designers request support (for the more complex projects)
Ensure stores are kept clean and tidy
Ensure stock levels are appropriate for planned needs
Ensure stock purchases are cost effective
Track costs into our project costing system
organise repairs to the building and updates to installed showroom displays
Carry out routine inspections and maintenance (eg: checking fire doors operate properly, ensuring displays are clean)
Of course, the myriad of other small tasks that come up in the day to day life of small business.

As a small business, customer service is essential to our survival so you need to be friendly and positive towards clients and colleagues.

If problems develop on site our aim is to give solutions to customers, not problems.

We don't moan about difficult work and we help each other solve things

Every role in our business is a customer facing role and customers are the reason we're here. Grouches need not apply!

Working hours are 8am - 4pm (with an allowance of 30min unpaid lunch - 37.5hr week), based from our showroom between Faversham and Canterbury though on some days hours will vary (we've found a 7.30am start and 3.30pm finish work better on some days)

28 days paid holiday, of which some will be used for national holidays and Christmas.
