Full job description

We are looking for a permanent HGV Class 2 Driver with Hiab to join our Cardiff Timber Branch. The chosen candidate will be responsible for delivering building materials locally and to surrounding areas.

We are the largest independent builders’ merchant in South East Wales.

What is a builders’ merchant?

A builders’ merchant is a company which supplies materials to the construction sector.

Up to 85% of the built environment you see around you is supplied by Britain’s builders’ merchants. Merchants and the supply chain are crucial to the construction industry which contributes over £40 billion to the UK economy each year. A career in this essential commercial sector can be challenging, varied and rewarding.

Hours:

40 hours per week to be worked 7:30am - 16:00pm from Monday to Friday.

Salary negotiable according to experience.

Essential Requirements:

Clean Class C Licence and full current CPC training (Essential)
Lorry Mounted Crane licence and experience (Preferable but training available)
At least 2 years’ delivery driving experience
Digital tachograph card.

Duties:

Delivering building materials in and around the surrounding area
Loading and unloading safely
Completing paperwork and record sheets
Manual handling
Customer service - dealing with customers in person

Essential Skills:

Experience of safe loading including weight and load distribution stability and security of load
Knowledge of driver hours and driver safety regulations
Digi-card and tachograph experience
Able to identify materials accurately, working from delivery notes and to complete paperwork records accurately and methodically
Confident communicator, willingness to engage with customers to provide good customer service
Good communication and team work skills
Naturally tidy, organised reliable, industrious, adaptable and quick to grasp new concepts
Ability to follow instructions efficiently and work unsupervised
Manual handling capability (up to 25kg)

Desirable:

Knowledge of building materials and their usage, an interest in the construction industry and good numeracy skills. Good arithmetic, preferably GCSE Maths grade C.
