Job Description – Warehouse Operative

Reports to: Warehouse Manager

Job Overview: As a Warehouse Operative you will be responsible for receiving, inspecting, storing and issuing materials, components and products within the warehouse or stores environment. The role ensures accurate stock control, efficient goods handling and smooth operational flow across the business.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Report to team leader for daily duties or tasks.
Receive and inspect incoming goods to ensure accuracy, quality, and condition.
Check delivery notes, purchase orders, and documentation for correct quantities
Book goods into the warehouse system using scanners or computer software
Load and unload vehicles safely using manual handling or equipment (e.g., pallet trucks, forklifts if trained)
Maintain a clean, organised warehouse and follow all health & safety procedures
Pick, pack, and prepare orders for when required
Report damaged, missing, or incorrect items to team leader
Work closely with warehouse, purchasing, production, dispatch and assembly teams to support daily operations by providing stock as required.
Record and log any deliveries received, enter stock into system and provide purchase department with delivery notes.
Store products in the correct locations and segregate as required.
Ensure the smooth operation of goods-in & goods-out and warehouse operations.
Complete & record stock takes as required.
Dispose of waste correctly and recycle where possible.
Condense pallets to make storage more efficient.
Carry out monthly/weekly safety checks as directed by the Warehouse team leader.
Observe health & safety requirements as per the company’s Health & Safety Policy.
Observe quality management requirements as per the company’s Quality Management Policy.
Receive and load any pallet deliveries/collections where needed.
Organize and maintain inventory and storage areas
Ensure shipments and inventory transactions are accurate.
Identify areas of improvement.
Liaise and coordinate activities with other departments
Maintain the cleanliness of interior and exterior of the building.
Meet any training needs for this role.
Any other duty reasonably requested by a team leader or manager

Requirements:

Previous warehouse or goods-in experience is beneficial but not required
Good attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Basic computer skills (for stock systems and booking-in processes)
Physically fit and able to lift/move goods safely
Strong teamwork and communication skills

Desirable (not essential)

Forklift licence (desirable but not essential)

Qualifications:

GCSE or equivalent.
Previous experience in stock control, inventory management, warehousing, or logistics
Knowledge of stock rotation methods (FIFO, FEFO, etc.)
Experience working in a fast-paced environment
