Job Summary – Bookseller
We’re looking for a passionate, book-loving individual to join our friendly team as a Bookseller. If you thrive in a welcoming, customer-focused environment and love sharing your enthusiasm for reading, we’d love to hear from you! This role is ideal for someone who enjoys helping people discover their next great read, takes pride in maintaining a beautiful space, and is confident handling a mix of in-person and behind-the-scenes tasks.

In addition to connecting with customers on the shop floor, this role includes essential admin responsibilities such as responding to emails and messages, managing customer orders, and contributing to our presence on social media.

Duties

Greet and assist customers in finding books that match their interests and needs.
Keep the shop tidy and visually appealing, ensuring displays are fresh and well-organised.
Share recommendations and promote new arrivals, bestsellers, and offers.
Accurately process transactions using our point-of-sale system, with confident cash and card handling.
Respond to customer inquiries with warmth and professionalism, both in person and via phone, email, and messaging platforms.
Help manage stock, including restocking shelves, checking inventory, and receiving deliveries.
Support our online and social media presence by preparing posts, replying to comments/messages, and sharing updates.
Work as part of a team to meet sales goals and create a welcoming, inspiring environment for all visitors.

Skills & Experience

Strong communication skills—friendly, clear, and confident, both face-to-face and in writing.
Good organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and stay calm during busy periods.
Comfort with basic maths for transactions and stock counting.
A keen eye for display and shop presentation.
Previous experience in retail or customer service is a plus.
Experience with social media (especially Instagram/Facebook) is helpful.
Basic knowledge of Google Docs and Google Sheets is helpful for admin and team communication.
Bilingual or multilingual skills (especially Welsh) are highly desirable.
