This full-time role will be in our modern, eco-friendly offices at Broughton Park, near Skipton, North Yorkshire, BD23 3FD. Our team has adopted a hybrid working approach with some requirement to work both from home and in the office. We supply basic equipment to support this. You will need to be in the Skipton office a minimum of 3 days a week.

As a Geospatial Data Scientist, you will be joining our growing team to help deliver on some of our leading and most challenging projects. Collaborating across teams of experts in natural sciences, statistics and software engineering, you will be responsible for tasks such as:
· Contributing to the development of reproducible data workflows
· Developing and implementing machine learning models for various projects
· Handle data pre-processing tasks such as data cleaning, transformation, normalization, and feature engineering to prepare data for model training
· Analyse data and identify patterns to improve model accuracy
· Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and deploy models
· Participate in quality assurance of data outputs
· Explore new data sources and methods under guidance
· Work with environmental and geospatial datasets
· Assist in presenting results to internal stakeholders, collaborators and occasionally clients
· Grow your understanding of JBA’s data and methods.

A graduate degree (Bachelor's, Master's, or equivalent) in a scientific subject with a strong numerical component, or equivalent professional experience is required.
Essential attributes for the role:
· Familiarity with data analysis techniques, models and visualization tools (Pandas, Matplotlib, Plotly)
· Familiarity with database management systems
· Strong foundation in machine learning algorithms, statistics, and data structures
· Proficiency in programming languages and frameworks (Python, PyTorch)
· Experience with data pre-processing, feature engineering, and model evaluation techniques
· Willingness to stay up to date with the latest ML and AI developments
· Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
· Excellent communication and collaboration skills, including explaining technical work to non-technical audiences and publishing scientific discoveries to the global audience
· Accountability and reliability in delivering results
· Interest in real-world environmental and natural hazard problems.
Desirable attributes for the role:
· Experience working with geospatial or environmental datasets
· Practical experience applying 2D hydraulic models to flood risk assessments
· Experience developing embedded ML applications (C++, CUDA, TensorRT)
· Knowledge of natural hazard risk
· Ability to work within Agile frameworks, prioritizing tasks and delivering efficiently
· Openness to experimenting with new ideas and technologies
