Help Shape Good Governance Across the Council

Are you passionate about integrity, accountability and making a real difference in public services?

We're looking for an enthusiastic and professional Governance Officer to join our Governance Team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in supporting the Council's governance arrangements, helping to manage risk, prevent fraud, support investigations and strengthen decision-making across the organisation.

Working across a wide range of services, you'll help ensure the Council operates effectively, transparently and in the best interests of residents.

About the Role

As Governance Officer, you will:

Lead and support the Council's anti-fraud and corruption activities.
Co-ordinate the National Fraud Initiative and fraud prevention programmes.
Support whistleblowing arrangements and fraud self-assessments.
Assist with governance investigations, including complaints relating to the Councillor Code of Conduct.
Support internal audit reviews and improvement actions.
Help services identify, assess and manage risks.
Assist with the development, implementation and review of governance policies and procedures.
Produce reports, performance information and governance updates for managers and Members.
Support wider governance projects and organisational improvement initiatives.

About You

We're looking for someone who is:

Organised, analytical and detail focused.
Confident communicating with a wide range of people.
Able to interpret information and provide practical solutions.
Comfortable handling sensitive and confidential matters.
Committed to high ethical standards and continuous improvement.

You will ideally have:

Experience in governance, compliance, audit, risk management, fraud prevention or a related field.
Strong report writing and presentation skills.
Knowledge of local government governance principles (desirable).
A relevant qualification or willingness to work towards one
